Lmao! No Prince didn't teach me the Lord's Prayer!!
But it's a total blessing that he's tought so many- Incredible "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

it all means the same:
The Prayer to Our Father in the Original Aramaic:
Abwûn O Cosmic Birther, from whom the breath of life comes,
Amên. Sealed in trust, faith and truth. (I confirm with my entire being)

Oh man...
Anyway, I learned it in church (before my family realized that religion is bollocks) and I think we used to say it in school too. That and O Canada and I think we even sang God Save the Queen.

Yes. I'm an atheist, but as a kid we had to say the Lord's Prayer EVERY MOTHERFUCKING DAY.
Worst part? It wasn't even a religious school. And there was pretty much an equal mix of white kids, black kids, Hindus, Muslims, etc.
Same at my high school. Everyone had to say it every day. But I told them I wasn't saying it, I was an atheist and they could kiss my ass. I clocked up more detentions than anyone else in the history of the school. Not just for that, but that certainly added to the list, lol.
Y'all seem to keep religion and education separate moreso in the US. Another reason to add to my long-ass laundry list of why I'm happy to be moving to the US next year. |

This. I was 8 when Controversy Came out, and 16 when Act of Contrition came out. I'm not from a particularly religious family, so I wasn't familiar with either of those things before I heard those songs.
Now, when I hear the Lord's prayer, I always hear a synth slam before the words "Daily Bread". Keep your headphones on.

I was raised Catholic as well, but I recognized the end part. We sometimes went to Saturday services, (when the congregation tended to be a bit more liberal), and we'd sing The Lord's Prayer with those lines.

Did Prince learn it from Al Green?

No, Prince did not teach me the Lord's prayer. I was a Catholic school girl. Imagine a 12-year-old Catholic school girl HOT for Prince. Not sure what the nuns thought about that! LOL!

Yes that's how I know it... comes in really useful, but I alwaays say it in the same rhythm as in the song. The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

I went to a private Catholic School and we had to recite that prayer every morning before class. So I knew it well before Prince included it in his mega hit song "Controversy". it made me like the song even more. The long version. The short version that was released as a single didn't do the song justice... [Edited 8/18/10 11:12am] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

No, however I don't think anyone learnt it from Cliff Richard's Millenium Prayer either? LOL
Maybe Prince could cover My Sweet Lord and multi-layer the Hare Krishne chant? This is what it's like in the dream factory...
