my favorite on Emancipation and could easily go in a list of top Prince songs for me. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

One of my favourites of Emancipation. Original, intriguing and the work of Prince, that time (and critics) seemingly forgot.
Am I right in assuming this was a recording 'of the time' as opposed to one from the vault? It certainly sounds that way to me.

couldnt tell you but someone else might.
there seem to be a lot of his songs that get 'forgotten' over time
but maybe thats understandable seeing as there are so many of them this too shall pass

I don't think it came from the Vault. It has the same vibe of Sex in the Summer and White Mansion. Sort of a smooth jazz vibe under some really smooth easy going lyrics. Happy lyrics. Not hard rock, not nasty in your face sexy lyrics. No I think this song is from it's time. Prince was really getting into the jazzy sound during thus time. Now watch someone like Bart who really has the facts come in and just shoot my theory down. this is my opinion anyway so there! p "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Joint 2 Joint is a masterpiece! What other artist out there could dream of composing a track from the sound of a brutha tap dancing? The tempo changes of the song are like going from one room to the next, until you get to the master bedroom and all hell breaks loose! Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

During his genius-use-of-sampling days, IMO. "Sexme?" -"Yeah..."
Tap dancing thing, meh, but I do like this track. It was a grower for sure. reminds me of Bump Squad. "GARSON! Avez-Vous un crayon? That's French, understand?"

Easily one of my favorites off Emancipation. It became an instant favorite.
I like the way you put it. The tap dancing part don't move me like that, tho.
Anyone else digging the ending? The phone conversation and the mysterious sound at the very end. I don't know what he's trying to deliver here, but I like it anyway.

Such a brilliant song. It really epitomizes that quirky Prince sound. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

This song is so fucking great, If only for the fact it has a tap dance solo.
In fact the stretch from Soul Sanctuary upt till Holy River on Disc 2 of Emancipation is flawless, absolutly flawless I tell the.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is that a tap sample beat thru the whole song? Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I don't know if it was a sample or the real thing... Savion Glover is dancing here, he's a famous tap dancer (He's in Spike Lee's movie Bamboozled).

so 1st eye need a picture of ur mother 2 verify the fact that there is no other one in the universe so surpeme baby u got the rocks 2 give a brother cream
and if u don't get a funk face from that bass solo ..something wrong witch ya!! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

the cows are for calves line is one of my favorites cuz its genuine and true .. i used to like the rest of the song too but not much on emancipation really has much staying power for me to be honest .. i especially like the tap dancer ... i forget his name but he was getting popular around when this record dropped ... and its a cool idea bringing all the different song forms together at the end so they are over lapping each other ... but a lil cluttered too almost works ... i also like how he delivers that line with a mouth full o cereal ... slave is my fav on that record and there are a few others that creep into my subconcious at times like dreamin about u .. jam of the year .. right back here .. my computer .. one kiss at a time ...
