Though The Black Album is not one of my favorites, I can listen to the whole thing. Except "Bob George" It just has a way of creeping me out for days... Am I the only one? lol

Why? Come on... It's a song about a psycho being jealous killing his girl in cold blood. Nothing wrong about that, is there? Better and less creepy than Everybody Loves Me. neutral

Everything from 1978 until 1989 is awesome, except the tag ending of "Temptation".

The vocal on "Bob George" is what makes it so hot! Prince never used that voice before and hasn't since. It's a single view into a side of him we've never seen again.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It's completely idiosyncratic. Who else but Prince would make a song like this? Even Prince has never done anything quite like it, before or since. Completely unique, and genius.

I find it interesting that the voice was used on the track "Bang Bang" that Prince wrote for Brownmark. It makes me wonder if Prince had the intention of writing a number of songs that incorporated the "Bob George" character, and that "Bang Bang" was one such song.

For those who went to the Lovesexy show...had u heard "Bob George" prior?

I remember being so pumped after seeing the MTV news footage of the opening night in Paris, with Kurt Loder saying something about him singing Bob George. I hadnt heard it yet and was pretty unimpressed by the short bit he played in concert.

Then I scored my first copy of the Black Album (on vinyl) in the summer of 89...AWESOME!!!!

Thank You!!! A lot of us had the songs before the tour.

However, you know that the first time you heard the ending of "Temptation," you were gripped with anxiety as you realized that love is more important than sex even though he had already informed you of that in "Computer Blue." And you were overcome with fear that this was the spiritual moment of awakening and enlightenment that would cause The Kid to walk away from it all in search of financial...err...spiritual truth. Admit it! Admit it! Admit it!

Bob George is the single most creatively impressive song Prince has put out in my opinion. When I heard it's narrative, selt deprecation, and very diciplined use of unique sounds to paint "colors" I hadn't heard yet and map out a scary landscape ... I respected Prince as an artist 10 fold more.

It has scissors snipping on the beat after a certain point!

I've tried pitching his vocals up loads of times in lots of ways, i can never get him to sound like 'Prince'. Very strange.

Love this track though. Still great.

I... understand what you mean Stacey...especially when you're an impressionable teenager as I was when I first heard it...and a pretty tough one at that...

But the song did creep me out...back then it was bootleg quality, but yeah, the voice was disturbing... 'exorcist like'...also didn't like the domestic violence aspect in it etc..back then I had women up on a pedestal...

Yes, especially when you've never come across a song like that before it creeps you out...normal reaction.

Now of course..it's just heavy funk to me..a cool song...he's just a big 'ol Teddy Bear...

Exactly-it was again one of those moments where you thought where is this man getting all this talent from. Prince ruined my ecclectic taste coz in this era it was like dealing with 50 popstars in one skin.

It never creeped me out, but after seeing him do it during the Lovesexy shows, both live and bootlegs, it started becoming a funny song to me. All of a sudden any time I heard it I would picture him with those funky sunglasses on. I can't remember where it was, but I saw one video where he actually started smiling/laughing at Cat while he was face to face singing it to her.

Except it for what it is, it's not like it was the opening track for Purple Rain.

Also, this was 1987, nothing been done like it before really, this pre dates NWA where being a thug and killing people were normal in songs. lol

I've always wondered if there are any 87/88 outtakes where he uses the same voice - surely he didn't just record one song and leave it at that - hell, Camille got a full album!

I've got it to the point where i can see what he did is use his "Morris Day/Jamie Starr" voice and down tune it about 3 full steps, then some slight speed changing.

This kinda thing was a lot harder in the 90s!

Yeah I remember 1988 -1989 being HUGH for NWA !!! My friends and I couldn't get enough of Straight Outta Compton. I can't speak for all white folks but the angry and violent nature of the lyrics definitely went hand and hand with the teenage rebellious stage my friends and I were going through at the time.

My rap phase was brief but I still accept about 1-3 new songs a year to enter in my life's playlist. It mostly happens by chance but you know it's "right" when you hear it.

All that being said, there will NEVER be a more BAD AZZ rap song than Eric B. & Rakim's ...Microphone Fiend!!! Every time I hear that song I wanta start throwing blows. If you look up the word intense in the "visual dictionary" there should be a pic of Eric B. & Rakim standing over it's grave stone.

Underneath the dark tone and deep voice, it's a really silly song, not meant to be taken seriously at all. "He's got a laser, let's get the hell outta here!"

Girl, let me see U dance

New coat, huh? That's nice
Did U buy it? Yeah, right
U seein' that rich motherfucker again
U know who I'm talkin' about
That slicked back paddy with all the gold in his mouth
Don't got 2 play me 4 yesterday's fool
Cuz I'll slap your ass into the middle of next week
I'm sorry, baby, that's the rules
I pay the rent in this raggedy motherfucker
And all U do is suck up food and heat
Say what? Oh yeah
4 someone who can't stand them TV dinners
U sure eat enough of them motherfuckers

Who bought U that diamond ring? Yeah, right
Since when'd U have a job?
U seein' that rich motherfucker again
What's his name? Bob?
Bob, ain't that a bitch?
What's he do 4 a living? Manage rock stars?
Who? Prince?
Ain't that a bitch?
That skinny motherfucker with the high voice
Please, who do I look like, baby?
Yesterday's fool?
Don't U know I will kill U now?
U're fuckin' right, I got a gun
U think I don't?
Then what's this?
Oh, U quiet now, uh huh
Little? Yeah, right
It might be little but it's loud
Yeah, right, mm hmm

Now put that suitcase down and go in there
And put on that new wig I bought U
No no, no no, the reddish-brown one
Bob, ain't that a bitch?

Oh
Gotcha {x2}

Hey Bob, if U're out there, let me see U dance
U said U was funky
Come on {x2}

Ain't that a bitch? Bob

Come out with your hands up

I'll kick your ass

This is your last warning

U think I won't?

Oh no, the nigger's got a laser
Let's get the hell outta here

{Phone voice repeats "Operator, what city, please?" in high speed}

Is Mr. George home?
Hello, Mr. George?
This is your conscience, motherfucker
Why don't U leave motherfuckers alone?
What's wrong with U?
Well, why can't we just dance? Why can't we just dance?
No, fuck that, fuck that!
I don't talk about U, I don't talk about U
U little almond-shaped head ass
Who the fuck do U think this is?
I'll kick your ass… twice!

Bob, if U're out there, let me see U dance
U said U were funky
Come on

B-O-B, spell the shit backwards, what's it say?
Same motherfuckin' shit
Turn it out

Bob, ain't that a bitch?
