Your best bet is to fly to Minneapolis from Conneticut, rather than drive as it would take u at least 4 or 5 days to get there by car, depending if u stop for nights or not!!!
Also, the only thing u can do at Paisley Park is just stand outside the peremeter fence and view it!!! Theres no tours!!
U can go and visit First Avenue Night Club, which is in downtown(Uptown???LOL) Minneapolis, which is directly opposite the Target Center!!
A little way up the road and down a dead-end street on the left you can see a club called The Quest, which used to be Princes' old Glam Slam Club
Really, in Minneapolis, theres not that many Prince landmarks left!!!
U could also take a trip to Lake Minnetonka!!!!

awww, my bad, for some reason i thought it was open to tours...Whats the American laws on Aussies jumpin fences and having a look around the Park of Paisley:-D
4 or 5 days to Minny??? there goes my idea of going coast to coast...by car!!!
First ave would be a defo stop in i think, like to check it out. and ill try and get the Mrs to re enact apples in the lake, dont think she will go 4 it though, lol....
love to catch up with orgers while im over there! "was i the first, was i your every fantasy"

True, you won't be able to get into Paisley Park - you can peer from outside the gates, but the trip by car isn't that long. With piss breaks and food stops, you can go East coast to Minnie in 24-hours. The house from Purple Rain is still there and First Ave hasn't changed much, plus, there's a Hard Rock Cafe across the street from First Ave that has a Prince display.
Oh, and don't come to Minnesota during the winter. We're closed. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Great jonty! Don't let anything stop you from seeing what you can in Minnesota. I took my trip in April of '87 and we had light snow a few of the days we were there, but I'd ask advice from squirrel about the four weeks you'll be visiting. Well have a safe trip. Who knows what might happen or who you might run into on your journey?

I was in Minneapolis earlier this month (I'm from the UK) so I took a swing past Chanhassen to see Paisley Park. The gates were open so I drove into the (empty) car park and took a couple of snaps. I was half expecting to be chased off by a security guard, but there was no-one around. Doesn't seem like much goes on there these days. Still, worth a drive past if you're going to be that close (it's about 18 miles from Minneapolis, IIRC).
Minneapolis itself is a very nice city. Very clean and friendly. Also quite compact, so once you're there you can pretty much ditch the car and go everywhere by foot. I'd recommend a trip over to St Paul (you'd need the bus for that). The Cathedral and State Capitol Building are stunning, and worth the trip on their own.
Have a great time jonty I'm just, I'm just Levi from the org

You can still go coast to coast, why not? You can pass Minn on the way. But it won't harm you do do some preparation. I would advise you to start with Google Earth (you know you can plan your trip with that tool?

No, it means what is says. But you said "4 or 5 days to Minny??? there goes my idea of going coast to coast...by car!!!"
so i wonder: when exactly did your idea go? when you heard of the 4/5 days or when you realized you have young kids?
