Guitar (Original Version) VS Guitar (Planet Earth)

I just listened back to the original version, and DAMN I forgot how good this track was!

Quirky, playful and fun.

I prefer this version to the Planet Earth version, which I find a little overproduced and kind of obvious.

The snares and synths on this are just wayyyy better. It's more fun with the programmed beats and processed guitar rather than the more live feel of the Planet Earth version IMO.

I also like the original song way better than the PE track.

Original! By far! The PE version went waaay overboard trying to hard. I think the original was fine. It was far simpler and quirkier. The PE version lost its charm

That original version is HORRIBLE. I must prefer the more spirited version on Planet Earth. It's a rollicking good time.

I love and hate both versions for these reasons:

1) I love the live feel of the album version, but hate that it sounds like I Will Follow by U2

2) I love the guitar solos on the original version, much more blistering!! But i hate the simple drums and silly synths.

Kinda want to merge the two, maybe that would make me happy.

The album version is way better.

The original demo is good though, but it lacks the 'weight' and 'riff' heavyness that a song called

"Guitar" should have. The album version corrected this.

Exactly. I was so underwhelmed by the original track, after the announcement of a track named "guitar". I expected a real rocker, and then there wasn't that much guitar in it. And the plastic production is so lame. The album version is much much better.

It's a really nice cover version of the Beatles song "Back in the USSR".

The guitar solo on the original version is a trip but, I prefer the PE version ...

Interesting that you should say this, I also thought the intro sounded like that, but was then a little dissapointed that he did not keep this feel in the rest of the song. I did quite like that sound as it hinted towards Prince getting his rebellious sound going again... Should've known better, I know... neutral

That being said, I would say I prefer the album version, it has a fuller sound, which you would expect from a song called like that. I agree withyour point 2), though.

I prefer the PE version as well, but I think it needs a KILLER solo which it sounds like it was building to when the song fades... sad

I dislike PE so much that I haven't listened to is since shortly after it's release. I'd have to do that again before I could say for sure. But my memory is telling me I may have liked the finished product on the album a bit more than the first pass.

Still waiting for U2 to sue. Not for ripping them off - but for ripping them off so badly.

I like both versions.

The original version is alot more daring which i like.

Prince opted for the safer verson.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Ernest is right, Horrible is the word for the ORIGINAL.... sad

the PE final studio version: it's too short.

Not a good song though, but I can tolerate it. biggrin

The album version is great. I love it.

The original was OK but never rocked my world the way the PEversion does.

I like the Planet Earth version better. When I first downloaded the original version I thought I got a bad mp3 because the vocals sounded messed up lol

I like the PE version because it has, well, you know, guitars in it lol

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
