Let's say Prince went on tour this Summer...

And he came to the Org for our opinions(it could happen) about the type of show we wanted to see...

Think outside the box...

What's your setlist, the type of venue, any guest band members, the opening band or artist, the type of performance, the encore...anything:

Yeah! Prince needs to do a concert at Paisley Park for Minnesota residents only. razz

The band would be Prince, Sheila E./Michael B. (dependin on the song, they would switch off), Sonny T., on bass...Lisa and Wendy...Andre Cymone...good lord! mr.green

Lovesexy
Glam Slam
I Wish U Heaven
An unplugged of ALL his ballads...
The Scandalous Sex Suite with me as Kim Bassinger... lol
Anna Stesia

Then an encore!!!

Raw and unedited versions of Pheromone, Shockadelica, Shhh, SexyMF, Dirty Mind, Head, Electric Intercourse, etc, etc...

wink

It's cool you added "Shhh". He doesn't play songs from TGE very often. In fact I can't remember the last time he played a TGE song live.

I thought Prince didn't play a "TGE" songs since 1996 , with the exception of "the most beautiful girl in the world" of course, that's sad...

Um, didn't Prince book a theater in Minneapolis for a show during the 2002 celebration and then cancelled the show when the tickets didn't sell?

I think Minn. has seen too much of Prince and people there don't get very excited anymore when he plays. I think if he does go on tour this summer, he should go to cities that did NOT get a ONA show.

He should also make it a high priority to play aftershows in cities where he never plays aftershows. Stop playing aftershows in the same cities year after year.

The way I see it, Prince doesn't sell in MPLS for three reasons: he is considered a hometown boy, his concerts are too spur-of-the-moment, and folks here are too cheap.

I agree, that was a great lineup for that performance.

---Personally, I'd like to see him do another larger arena tour and throw in some more funk-soul songs plus some hits for any new Prince fans coming to the show.
I like the jazz sound, but I'd still like to hear some old favorites like The Cross(not the Christ), Forever in my life, I could never take..., Live4Love, Shhh, the Ride, the One, Holy River. That's just me.

If he would be honest and open he would just come to the org, announce himself as Prince and ask what he wants to know.

Or he could do another "utellus@npgmc.com".
He did that for a couple Celebrations if I recall.
Very cool of him if you ask me.

I agree that the utellus questions were cool, but not anymore.
They have turned out to be so one-sided in favor of Prince, that criticism is not posted. Moreover, they were never asked like:"What and how would you like Prince to release, (provided ...)?"
Never with the intention of really getting to know what the "fans" want...There is too much dividing...

I'd love to see him do a two-night stand. The first night would be a full-out concert with lighting, staging, costume changes, etc. This would be the concert that would include more of the "hits" for the casual fan, lots of upbeat dance tunes, very high energy.

The second night would be at a smaller venue, and would be for hard-core fans only. Bare stage, no pyrotechnics and all, just a focus on the music. Set list to include lots of unreleased stuff we hard-core fans know and love, things he's never (or very seldom) played live, plus a set of brand new music we've never heard. The topper: If you find a golden ticket under your seat you get to request a song of your choice.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Event: PRINCE - Live In The Summer Tour

Press: Pop Star 'Prince' kicks off a spectacular summer tour in 2003 to recrown himself as one of the most influential, talented and greatest live performers of modern day since 'Hendrix, 'Little Richard' and 'James Brown'.
His Royal Badness, has been known for his electrifying performances from 1999 to Lovesexy 88', By the 1990's Prince started to play smaller venues and theatres to create a more intimate atmosphere b/t artist and fans.

With The exception of his latter tours 'Jam Of The year' which were a rip-roaring success at the amphitheatre venues during the summer of 1996.

After Rave Un2 The YEAR 2000...Prince later embarked on a more Upscale Tour for the more mature audience on the ONA Concert Tour which seemed endless throughout the world.
Once he conquered his new jazz wave Live show for the die hards of NPGMC

Prince is back for his first Summer Tour since 1996, where The Artist himself will play material that crowned him 'Prince' in the first place for the fans of Prince's Purple Reign years.
Songs from his Earlier albums 'Prince', 'For U','Dirty Mind', 'Controversy', 'Purple Rain','Around the world in a day','Parade', 'Sign O Times', 'Lovesexy' and 'The Gold Experience', plus new music from an upcoming Prince Album -due in the fall will be xperienced on this tour.

Doug (Turntables), The Horn heads featuring Greg Boyer, Najee, Maceo Parker, Backing Vocals from Blackshire and Milenia and Prince (Whatever)
With special guests: Doctor. Fink (Keys), Vanessa Mae (Violin), Eric Leeds (Sax) and Candy Dulfer (Sax).

This will be a musical revolution!

The SetList will be alot of songs that Prince hasn't played in years and rare unreleased joints like Mutiny, Moonbeamlevels, Possessed, Computer Blue, Automatic, Sexy Dancer, Bambi, America, Uptown, Annie Christian, Sexuality, Mountains, I would die 4 U, Paisley Park, Lovesexy, Dance On, Glam Slam, and I Know, plus many others.

LOL You know...do have the option of not posting or even reading this thread, but I respect your opinion just the same.
I thought it was a little fantasy based, too--but I know the npgmc come here quite often AND, more importantly, I really wanted some different ideas. I like to think of the impossible...what if...and Prince has actually come up with things after I've thought of them.
The whole Batman album I honestly thought of in 1987 after reading Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Two years later, out comes "Batman" the soundtrack(not my fave to be honest, but oh well).
I thought the Joffrey Ballet Billboards show was brilliant too. I guess I was hoping for Prince to think outside the box again--concert wise. Granted TRC is great, and the ONA tour was also great-- but something about it felt forced at the same time.

For instance...what if TTD opened for Prince instead of his normal Paisley protege groups. On the flip side...as someone mentioned above...what if the Time opened for him? What about Rosie? George Clinton?
What about doing a live show from the center of an arena again(see lovesexy tour) so everyone can hear and see him better?
What about a free concert where everyone brought canned foods for the poor? What about another benefit concert/tour? What about doing shows at Paisley or in downtown Mpls?

Done that before? OK, what about performing a live show to HBO? What about releasing vault CD's via his website? Past live concerts? Playing on some more talk shows like Leno or Conan? Starting a new internet radio station???
I like when he takes chances with the general public and not just the die-hards. That's all. I'll shut up now.
