'When Something is wrong with my baby' is one of my favourite songs but I've only ever heard THIS version - you might have heard me mention John Farnham more than once in the podcasts smile

Thanks for the show, had a blast listening!

Fun to hear MC beginning to endlessly gush on about

Beginning Endlessly. I have to agree with him though.
i think it's one of the best on the album. It's Total Prince

and I like that in a Prince song.

The prize winner for me is "the glue song" especially when

that second part kicks in. That shit gets me every_time!

MC, give it up, turn off whatever you feel about Sticky Like Glue,

and just take in what's going on in the second part. Total Prince.

Not as deep or intense as the second part of IIWYG, but it kind

of grabs me the same way as that did.

I may be wrong also, but two things in this song that I like that

I don't think you guys mentioned is the funny line about

People Magazine ain't even in tha Top 5. and better yet the

"I know we're disfunctional, but eyee eyee eyee eyee eyeee still loove yooouu".

Who does shit like that?!! I like how he's admiting that yeah although we're

kind of fucked up together, my feelings are still there. Good shit.

Rounding out my top favs: LAVAUX!! (glad that Toejam mentioned the

woh woh woh woh woh part at the end too).

And of course Laydown. I'm in to Act Of God too and the rest of the album,

but the others I mentioned are my tops and I fear that I am beginning to endlessly

gush on this post biggrin

Thanks for making the album that much more fun with your amusing and enjoyable show!

To post a youtube video type:

then copy and paste the last part of the url of the video you want to copy. The part after the =.

For example, the John Farnham video you posted has the following url:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clsB1NYMCkk

So, copy and paste this part:

clsB1NYMCkk

then type:

Your finished product should look like this (but without any spaces):

Voila!

Now get your behind over to the rubbish pop video thread at http://peachandblack.proboards.com and start posting!

That Jimmy Barnes/John Fanham cover was ok but it ain't got nothing on the original. It's kind of similar to Alicia Keys' take on "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore." It's nice to hear a classic reinterpreted but the original is usually better.

I tried to find the studio version of the Sam & Dave version on youtube but it seemed to be all live versions. Captain, if you can find it give the studio version a listen.

Just listened to the podcast. There was one thing I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned...Act Of God really reminds me of Melody Cool (does anyone even remember that song?). Actually any time I hear that song, I can easily imagine Mavis Staples voice with The Steeles backing her.

Another thing, I forget who said it but it was great that one of the hosts talked about how he's changed when it comes to mentioning how much money he makes. You are dead on it. Any time he talks about how important money is, he cheapens songs. Exhibit A: The One - "...pay your bills...take you anywhere you want to eat...buy you half the town..."

Of course artists of all kinds want to make money from their works, but a painter painting dollar bill signs in his work just ain't the same as when he was creating mainly for the love of making his art.

It drives me nuts when he goes on about how much money he makes/has. It seemed like it was at it's worst in the first few post WB years but he was also bragging about how he already got paid for 20Ten before it was even released. It's great for him to be earning money but I think it takes away his motivation to get out there and work his albums to the public. It would have been fantastic if he had toured Lotusflow3r but it seems like because he got paid in advance regardless of how many copies were sold he felt that he didn't have to really sell the project.

yeah I agree, it is better than some other attempts at ballads he has done recently but it still has nothing groundbreaking for me..

I got a question for you. Of the ballads he's done over the years, what are your favorites?

The Beautiful Ones, Scandalous, Insatiable, Crucial, Sometimes It Snows In April, Adore, TMBGITW, Slow Love, Power Fantastic, Old Friends 4 Sale

All the usual suspects I suppose...

I've been thinking myself that 8/10 might be too high

I think we need a score out of 100 ! then I could give it say a 68/100

I think I am being too generous with my ratings lately !!

I think that all of you are maybe a bit too generous with the ratings. Are any of Prince's albums really a perfect ten? Heck, even Sign 'O The Times has "It" which I think is a fairly average track. 1999 has "Free" which is not a fantastic song. Maybe Purple Rain rates a ten? For me, when I hear you guys rank some of the newer albums in the 8-8.5 range I gotta wonder how many 10's are there going to be once you hit the golden era? However, I guess you don't want to do something crazy and give Batman a score of 4/10. Golly, a person would have to be nuts to do that!

yeah it's a tricky thing , I am trying not to rate anything too high because I know the best is yet to come and I have my 9-9.5-10 range reserved for those

but I can't really see me giving any Prince album less than a 5 because there is nothing IMO that is that bad. Except NEWS .... I would have given that probably a 4 if we had scored it.

'For You' is not going to get a great score from me, I can tell you that now but still, it is still better that some other artists BEST albums, so to give it a score is just tricky !

Not to mention - how you feel about certain albums can change month to month, week to week !

and yeah I still can't believe that 4/10....

See, I don't necessarily think that a 5/10 is bad, especially if you are comparing it to his other albums. If you are basing scoring against other Prince albums I think you can get away with lower scores by saying that an album just does not measure up when compared to his other albums. Really, though, the scoring is the least entertaining part of the show and I don't think we listen to you guys for that. It's much more interesting listening to you guys dissect songs and pick out the bits that you really like.

I think you might be able to score For You as an incomplete. Prince wasn't really Prince yet and on the very next album he made a pretty big jump in terms of quality. Heck, the album after that he probably made an even bigger jump. Arguably by his third album he was unrecognisable as the same guy that made his first album si it's tough to compare For You to any album that came after.

Now, I know that I just said that 5/10 is not really that bad of a score but if y'all are handing out scores of 8 and up for albums like 3121 and Planet Earth it is absolutlely criminal to give Batman a 4. I think that MC needs to be slapped! I'll take "Lemon Crush" over any of the weaker tracks on his '00s albums.
