I wish more of my friends liked prince. They're missing out. At least I have my mother, she rocks out to Prince with me all the time.

Moat of the people I know are artists - musicians, producers, djs....yes, they all like Prince...or at the very least respect the shit outta him.

Of course they do, although they're into other music styles (metal, jazz, ethnic, etc.) I find it natural and expected. I am but mad north-northwest

most of my friends kinda know that Prince deserves some respect ... but it's not like they ever listen to any of his work ... they only know the 80s and a few 90s hits, and aren't interested any more..
but can you blame them - the only thing they know about current-day Prince, is that he is a Jehova 's witness and he hasn't had any big hits recently
In the light of the recent concert and telling friends I was going to see him, one friend recently referred to him as TAFKAP and never knew his name had changed again. Another one asked me if he is gay ....

None of my friends like Prince. They've made it very clear that I can have his music to myself. (Sure, they respect the man's music, but they're not really taken in by it either).
But that's okay. My friendships are luckily not so shallow that I have to cross reference their taste/ethnicity/sexuality/ect. with mine. In fact, that is one way to always get new impressions from outside my own navel.

Some of my friends have a passing enthusiasm in Prince. They might play his old stuff semi-frequently, etc.
But one time, I offered one of them a USB dongle with like 1gig worth of unreleased stuff and he declined, lol.

I would say that most of my friends only really know 80`s Prince songs & a few 90`s hits but mostly they`re not interested in anyrhing current. I know only one person who has any interest in current Prince & he`s asked for a few mixed cds but other than that no. Not even my wife is very interested in current Prince, the last album she really liked was Musicology but I think she likes that one b/c she got to go to one of the concert dates for that tour. She still talk about how that`s best concert she`s ever been to. I wish he`d make another run of the east coast in the states... dreaming...

Nope..atleast unless they keep it a secret, for the most part if I mention him they just go ...Doesn't really bother me because about 90% of what I listen to is considered to be "older" music.

Most of my friends 'are' Prince fans. I have a few childhood friends that 'like' Prince and my newer friends from the last 10yrs 'love' P's music as much as I do. I couldn't have it any other way. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Most don't like his music, don't want to and are quite vocal about it. I just chalk that up to ignorance as I know it's something that they've never tried to get into. S'cool, Prince isn't for everyone. A few of them do, but they don't really care about keeping up with what he's doing as far as albums or touring goes. They usually hear about that stuff from me. I've got a couple friends that are hard core fans like me but they live out of state. I went and visited them during the Musicology tour so we could catch a couple shows together.

In my close circle of friends, I'm the biggest fan and I'm usually the one who has the latest news, album, etc. I have friends that like a song here and there. It took years to convert my sister and even then she mostly knows the "hits". My man is a MJ ride or die fan so he's pretty biased and seems to look for ways in which Prince is similar to MJ so he can compare then . I'm not sure if he appreciates Prince for Prince yet, but he likes some of his songs. I'm still trying to get Prince in his top ten artists list because based on his musical taste, it should be natural for him to dig Prince. A lot. Easy; I cannot have a "friend" who dislikes Prince; I mean, if you like Prince, Ok, we can be friends; BUT if you don't, well then, we surely are different as oranges and apples, so a "friendship" would be pointless...fuck you
I don't respect/trust anyone who dislikes Prince and several other artists, but SPECIALLY Prince, Stevie, The Beatles & Bowie

No matter where I am, someone in the room says gaaaay whenever the name pops up.

None of my friends like him. Therefore I get a lot of shit about listening to his music. They bring up the assless pants, the heels, and often mention how he's gay. Then I ask if they have ever given the music a good listen and they become quiet.
Meh.

Nope, in fact all of my friends hate Prince. they always make fun of him. I get very mad when they do though... Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Almost all of them do. In fact, 90% of their knowledge and love of his music is my doing.
That having been said, none of them r fans 2 the point where I can have an indepth advanced fan level discussion about his work. But they know more than "Purple Rain" so my work is done. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

My sister owned a Prince record long before me (Around the world in a day) and was 1993 at a Prince concert. Now she got the Purple rain record, which I bought. With a friend I was at a Prince concert a month ago. And with another friend I first saw the Prince movie "Purple rain" - I think he had recorded it on Video2000. But I think he listens to other music now.
