What would be a good theme for a Box Set?

Ok the hits and b-sides has obviously been done, so if P was to put out another box set what kinds of themes/ideas should it cover or include? non-singles, rarities, unreleased vault stuff, 90s-2000's stuff? i'd say a sprawling set that showcases his range and styles.

i'd juxtapose tracks like Don't Play Me with The Undertaker then Black Sweat then, What Do U Want Me to Do, etc. any other thoughts?

A complete remastered Album collection, incl. all the NPG, Madhouse, The Time, Vanity/Apollonia 6, Sheila E., Jill Jones & Paisley Park etc. stuff...

Something that looks like the recent Miles Davis-Box:

Unreleased material. No gimmicks like 10 tracks per disc. Fill each disc to its capacity with unreleased tracks over a 3 disc boxset. No edits, no overdubs, no creative license. Make sure they sound mastered properly and that's it.

I'd like a version of George Michael's 'For your feet' & 'for your heart' cd's on his greatest hits..

But since the P man is so all over the place it might be 'Love songs', 'Funk', 'Rock' and maybe 'Jazz'. I think you get my point.. wink

I really like that idea. The Paisley Box would be a really good concept.

The only way it would be worth it is if they did a limited thing.

interesting thoughts.

i like the idea of the full length live tracks.

but the unreleased stuff seems like it'd generate way more interest

First of all, Prince needs, Warned needs and WE need the remasters of the original albums. If they were released and successfully sold (including a proper promotional campaign), then perhaps we could dream about a 1978-2012 6 CD box set including hits, B-sides (yes, again), many unreleased tracks plus the best songs of the 1996-2012 era

In other words: NOT-GOING-TO-HAPPEN lol

SO MUCH THIS.

Either that or remasters of the earlier stuff... PLUS unreleased material. I'd die.

And none of that "studio edit" mess.

The ENTIRE vault, with the much fabled completed, but unreleased albums, each individually packaged just as they would be had they been put on store shelves.

crystal ball

camille

roadhouse garden

Why even go the box set route though? I understand the appeal, but it's such a dated and limited concept. Besides, there's no configuration of box set that's going to satisfy the hardcore fans who would be the main buyers anyways.

I'd say put the vault in the hands of someone who really cares about it and could manage making all the material available, and deliver it online in a simple format (i.e. no "Xperiences"), in a high quality, lossless format, for a single purchase price. www.princeboxset.com?

All the good Vault material. Prince only, no protoge's... no jazz blues fusion... rock and funk and r&b, that's all. The only musical tunes should be guitar. I would call the box sets (since he has so many songs) The Eargasm Experience! by Prince/the Artist

A good idea, but i still think that the vast majority of people interested in purchasing such material, would rather have a physical object, box, cd's, booklet etc.

Alternate takes and unreleased tracks from 1978-1988.

Including Prince's versions of protege songs.

I'm pretty sure I would quickly jizz in my pants.

Unreleased and alternate takes for sure. That's definitely the box set(s) I want most. Remastered albums with FULL DISCS of bonus material wouldn't really suck, either. Shorty said full length live stuff, but I'd also like a nice collection of remastered full-length studio tracks. Both released and unreleased stuff. I'm sure there's more tracks that have been edited than we know. I wouldn't hate a nice collection of fifty or so full-lengths (extended versions, for those who don't understand exactly what I'm sayin').

A live set would be nice, but not as a compilation like ONA live.

A box with 5 or 10 full length concerts from pivotal points in his career, unmolested, no overdubs or any shit. In fact that would probably work better as a dvd box set.

A dvd box set featuring the likes of Sacrafice Of Victor, The Undertaker, 3 Chains O Gold, The Beautiful Experience tv movie and other tv performances would be most welcome.

Even some of the rehearsal videos that we KNOW *cough*cough* are out there. There's some great jams in that stuff - without cursing, even.
