As an album it reminds me a lot of "Come". No one song is really that bad, but listening to them all in succession, my mind starts to wander. Its strange how critics always refer to "Diamonds & Pearls" as his most commercial set as "Batman" is definitely the most radio-friendly.

This was my first Prince album and I loved it! woot!

Batdance was the ridiculous jam all over radio that got me hooked, Partyman was just real funky, the seductive vocals on The Scandalous Sex Suite (and that wicked, nasty groove on Sex), the eerie atmosphere of The Future and I always felt Vicky Waiting had an irresistible melody to it.

But over 13 years later, what has happened? Whenever I play the album, I really just can't get back into it. Maybe, it's just that I'm not 11 anymore. mr.green

Anyone else?

considering the fact that i didn't get in2 P til Emancipation Era i've always had a PASSION 4 Music & thought that if i played a certain song 4 some1 or even myself it would XPLAIN how i feel @ that moment or what have u... but the ONLY album of P's that i don't particularly play is Chaos & DisOrder... 4 obvious reasons

Strange. I have never likened Batman to sounding like Come or even it having overtly commercial appeal, musically speaking. Actually, I rarely listen to Come anymore either but I used to think that had understated brilliance. I'm sure it still does.

The Future
Electric Chair
Vicki Waiting

and, yes

Lemon Crush

You can have the rest.

The thing felt like a money grab when he released it, and time has not been kind.

It's OK.

I thought "Bat Dance" was the cheesiest. biggrin To this day when I exchange emails with a former co-worker (classical music guy who, although he was feeling Prince, felt that this song sucked) he ends the message with the BD reference: "Keep bustin'." I always end with "KB 4 ever." smile

The Batman Album is funky!!

That's what "Rave" would have sound like back then for those who didn't like the style of music i.e. "Good Man" and "Your Love Is So Hard"

The album would have been better if "Dance With The Devil" made the cut.

I think this album contains his most personal lyric ever written. 4 got which song it is on, but it goes: "Talk of children it still frightens me. Is my character enough to be one that deserves a copy made. This I one day, I hope to see." So poingnant. basically telling the world that u're flawed(even though a lot worse people out there end up havein kids). I always think of this song b4 I slide that condom on(...well not "always"). I know the world doesn't need another one of my stupid asses.

I said the same thing on another B-man thread. I was shocked that he spoke of having kids etc.

It's from the best song on the album, "Vicki Waiting."

Aside from that song and "Batdance" the album isn't something very memorable in the scheme of Prince's catalog, but it has its moments.

I've always loved the song "Lemon Crush",but I just don't think it fits on this album. He should have saved that track for another album. It's extremely funky and catchy.

"Everytime you kiss me...Lemon Crush
Nay I can't resist thee...Lemon Crush
Everytime you do me...such a rush
Ooh it goes right through me...Lemon Crush"

I love the bass on that song!

I STILL love this album! I think most fans are far too snobby about it - it's not meant to be any great 'statement'. Just a fun, quirky, funky little album that perfectly captures the spirit of the film.
(With the exception of 'Joy In Repetition', 'The Question Of U', 'Still Would Stand All Time' and 'Thieves In The Temple', I'd take 'Batman' over 'Graffiti Bridge' ANY day).

BobGeorge99 and RDHull - re; "I think this album contains his most personal lyric ever written. 4 got which song it is on, but it goes: "Talk of children it still frightens me. Is my character enough to be one that deserves a copy made. This I one day, I hope to see." - but, these aren't "personal" lyrics - he's not talking about himself here, he is assuming the identity of Bruce Wayne. Talk of children frightens Bruce because of the experience he had as a kid and he's unsure if he should have kids because of the conflict he has with the vigilante he has become - but, he still wants children.

When Prince says "All is well in Gotham City, the sound of terror is all you hear", do you think he is re-counting personal experience??!! - lol

It's possible that this (the children opinon) could be Prince's view in a way - but knowing Prince's opinion of himself, I doubt he would be concerned about the character of a mini-P!

Calhoun - I LOVE that description: 'Candy in my mouth'. LOL!
Perfect!

Are you like me? Whenever I'm listening to a song I always copy the vocal style or the mannerisms (NOT that I sound anything like Prince!!!) so I know where you're coming from smile

I remeber the first time I say the video and I was curious to who that was singing. When they said Prince I was like... "Nooo way!!!" lol I have to admit that I started to like his music a lil around that time. I'm not really into it that muc hanymore either. We grow a lil and start changing the kind of musc , tones ect. Its quite normal.
