We all mistakes but we all, including Prince are suppose to make those mistakes. If he never made whatever mistakes he meant, he would have made others and ended up being a music teacher at Chanhassen High. lol

lol My point exactly!! lol

At the beginning of the show Queen Latifah did a bit about him not cursing and had the audience singing Sexy MF. I think that elicited his comment.

I think he refered to that day in 198FIVE, or 198SIX, when he arrived at that French airport and he rans off from his camera man to the fans gathered at the fence - but he didn't know it was an electric fence an people were yelling YEAHs and NO don't come closer, but it was too late...

What do you mean it's not in the computer?

Well, it's only his opinion in hindsight that it's the wrong direction. You could just as easily argue that signing up to a nutty doomsday cult is also the wrong direction, but I doubt Alicia wanted to point that out to a living legend on stage.

JW's are not a doomsday cult. They are just firm in their beliefs and kinda only see things in black and white. I should know...my grandmother studied with them for 40 years, and then she was baptized and became one and stayed that way until she became senile, and then "we" did the ole switcherooo on her because she didnt know what she was at that point. But my point being, is that they are not the terrible organization that folks paint them out to be.

Some things about them are bothersome, ie...peer pressure within the organization, as well as reports of families not talking to other family members who leave the church or who are excommunicated. But in general, it's not as bad as people think.

They may not be a DOOMSDAY cult but they do have a heavy focus on REVELATION. Many other Christian denominations say that we can't live with that in mind-instead to focus on the life you are living. I know JW also say this but there is always a nod to the final days-the eternity.

Do elaborate? I've never heard of this or read it in print.

OF COURSE HE'S REFERRING TO WB.

Signing away the rights to his masters. Letting himself be exploited by a terrible deal (which most young artists are prone to do) that he had to fight to get out of.

Having to compromise and cut down the records he wanted to release (ie SOTT originally supposed to be the 3xCD Crystal Ball configuration), not being allowed to release "Let's Rock" as a standalone single when the time was right to capitalize on the dance craze, instead having to release it much letter and changing the name to "Let's Work" so it didn't seem dated..... not being able to release TGE and Come back-to-back as intended.......how many more examples do you need?

I'm loving that you speak with so much authority about something Prince hasn't actively campaigned about for over 10 years. Or, for that matter, anything regarding Prince's personal thoughts. Please.

Maybe English isn't your native tongue and you can't read context clues.

If you listen to/read the rest of the quote, he goes on to say that the future of music is in good hands. This does not sound like someone still bitter, nearly 20 years later, about a contract dispute. Sorry.

I think he thought Alicia getting up on the piano was camp and kinda cute, I think he enjoyed it. She's pregnant, it's not like she was up there trying to show her ass, she was just channeling him, something he'd done in the past. I don't think he had issue with it at all.

I think the "mistakes" he was referring to were his image back in the day, especially now that he's all JW and I've read in many recent interviews he doesn't wish to talk about his past persona... not to mention the fact that he doesn't sing the old songs anymore, the ones that refer to sex and have sexual themes.

In addition I also feel he was talking about the drama with WB. Hindsight is always 20/20. Maybe at the time he thought he was doing the right thing, but perhaps looking back on his antics then and the bridges he burned maybe he feels that he could have gone about things differently.

None of us will ever really know specifically WHAT he was refering to with that "mistakes" speech at the BET awards, but we all have moments in our lives that we regeret, things we said and/or did in the heat of the moment and wish we could take back. Why should P be any different.

thanks to prince, artists of today dont have to make the same mistakes, in any context, if they dont want to

his career has provided a whole breeding ground of lessons for everyone in the music industry, past, present and future

he set many examples, through his errors, of what not to do, even though i dont believe in 'mistakes', i understand what the word means in this context

just hope he knows he has nothing to feel bad about, we're all young once, some of us stay young forever, with some wisdom thrown in for good measure

his career is a lesson in many things in many ways

this too shall pass
