Prince's production of "Elixer" under-rated I'm usually shy to start new posts here and just re-act to y'alls, but I must say that Elixer is highly under-rated.
I take it from this point:
Perhaps the media disses Prince 2 quickly coz of his emotional relationship w/ some "proteges"...but, Bria has a beautiful voice, and Prince worked this one intelligently to say the least (as an expression).
It's crisp.

I expect it to be really bad. Prince 4Ever.

the music in Elixer is like a massage, and those who miss the nasty Prince should dig the title track as well...

I recently fell in love with Prince's live version of "All This Love." (Sadly, I actually had to google the song to see whose it was--I figured he was covering someone else's song. Imagine my surprise.) So I went back to the original version to take another listen...and yep, it's bad. What Prince does with it live is awesome; what he did with it on Bria's CD is lame and drab. I really don't understand why, but I think it speaks to the production on the CD not being up to par. There are a couple songs I like on the CD, though (but I can't listen to the entire album all the way through...it gets to be too dull).

in all humility, i strong disagree with you. i'm listening to "everytime"...what a classic jam. the lyrics r in Prince's style...but it amalgamates in a sensual way w/ Bria's voice. and by the way, critics need to re-think her singing...coz she's singing on muliple octaves here... i also had to ask myself if the strings are being arrange by C.Fisher...this is a truly beautiful song, no 2 ways about it...

I really, really like that album for what it is. And I especially like the production on this one. If this were released in the 90s, when people like Karyn White, Chante Moore etc. were big, then this would have been heralded as an RnB masterpiece. Bria is not the best singer in the world but hey, far worse singers have become successful ( J-Lo, etc.) and the music and lyrics are not that bad, in fact, I really prefer this album over some of the ohh so cryptic and heavy lyrics that Prince comes up with on his own albums. This is a 1000 times better than all that Carmen Electra drivel that he wrote in the 90s, it´s in the same vein as some of the stuff he wrote for , say, Nona Gaye, and the reactions on this website regarding this album have very little to do with the music on the album.
By the way, I think Morris Hayes contributed a lot to this album. I have the utmost respect for Morris as a person and as a musician. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It's trash.
It's like an EP. You put the first song on, suddenly leave the room, come back 27 minutes later, and it sounds like you're on the same farkin' song. B O R I N G. It's like The Rainbow Children in low gear.

I agree . I even threw it in the trash. Where it rightfully belongs.

I like most of Bria's album.
It's good. I agree the production is crisp & Bria sounds nice. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

well i actually like it, yes it's very cheesey but apart from the track 2nite i don't skip any of it and have listened to it a number of times.

Another vanity project that isn't remotely unique, vibrant, or colorful. The same dull, thin-voiced crap he churned out for Mayte's and Tamar's albums. These women aren't singers (no, I don't particularly care for Tamar's voice), they are models. Which is fine. But let's not dress them up as "real musicians" when they basically just fuck for tracks.

the music is beautiful...as good as u can find at any jazz festival these days, even tho its beyond jazz; as i prev stated, after all the negative press, 1 would have thought that Bria was not working out...but she is a beautiful singer, and I am highly impressed with the way Prince has her layer her own voice...

2nite is funky...it's almost as if u can hear Prince saying the opening line:
"oooOOOooo!" | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
that music has nothing to do with beauty and it only suitable for dancing with the devil aka satan.

harsh
i find it interesting that there are Prince "fans" that refer to his music as trash
but, there is no two ways about it...
Elixer is beautifully mastered and a masterpiece for those who approach it
from a musical point of view

IN FACT IT SOUNDS FLUSH AFTER A 'RING' HAS DROPPETH INTO A TOILET.

That's part of the problem. Her voice is so thin and hollow that he has it laden with effects to make it sound light and airy. Keep in mind - this is the guy who respects and covers female artists like Joan Osborne, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Alicia Keys, Joni Mitchell, etc. They are real female singers.
Bria is his girlfriend and not particularly talented. As a talented person, Prince likely has an accurate concept of her talent, but enjoys her expressing herself anyway (especially when she speaks the same message as he does - a fetish of his that can be seen on the interview from The View during the Rave era re: mayte).
As far as the music is concerned, its typical 00s fare with passionless delivery, at times focusing more on tailoring and masking the barely-there chirp of Bria.

not actually...we won't go in2 the theory which asserts that many journalists are into supporting hegemonic powers behind the music industry, whose ass Prince is contemporarily kicking, but that's off topic...coz this is all about an the funk of '2nite'

I am a Lover , not a fan....fan is short for fanatic, remember.... I am a Lover of music, a human with EARS ... you are right no one else could make such a horrible manifest, Thank You Jehovah God Almighty Sovereign Lord for that. I truly of all my heart hopes no one will ever sink as low as that. It should never have come about. Just a disgrace. In. Every. Way.

Be weary of taking the name of the Almighty in vain...but with that being said, continue enjoying Prince's music, and hopefully even Elixer the song might hang on ya, the way it does me now, as if it were a silk pajama suit

Not a bad little record. Immersion is beautiful. Very good job by the P. Only drawback is Bria's uncharacteriscly bland voice unfortunatly.
