Lotusflow3r. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The best since Lotus Flow3r. If you read any interviews with those who give them, and the interviewer asks about the new album, nearly every artist says, "This is my best work, my best album." (In one 4m or another.) The pre-hype praise U2 gave No Sales on The Horizon was a total hack job. Co-writer/producer Brian Eno called the song "Moment of Surrender" his Greatest experience in his entire life in the studio. The album is actually good, but for U2, one of the worst of their career..which is not a bad thing...
In conclusion, I really don't get into these "Best album since.." discussions. Most reviews for Prince albums are talking about his clothes, personal life, or name changes. It is not easy to find one that focuses on the music on the actual cd. [Edited 8/13/10 23:10pm]

Triple-sign, quadruple-
To clarify: I mean Lf the single disc, 20Ten is at the very least, a better CD than MPLSound. [Edited 8/5/10 11:25am]

Honestly, I wouldn't start the sentence. It's just an okay album.

So, then it would be his best since Lotus/Mpls.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It would just be his only album since LotusFlower/Mpls.

Agreed best since LotusFlow3r (single disc). But keep in mind I really like LF so I'm not being sarcastic. And for the record, I really like U2's NLOTH. I think it's a great album. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of LF myself, so by saying 20Ten is the best album since LF I'm not trying to bash it. I just don't think it's as good as LF but I still like it.
And I LOVE "No Line on the Horizon" * * *

^ Yea U2 NLOTH is up there in my top 5 of U2 albums. I like it that much. And I'm a huge U2 fan. It has elements of everything I like about them on it. And If I had to pick between LF or 20Ten, I'd prolly go with LF. I really like the instrumental trippy pyschedelic stuff from P that's on 20Ten. But 20Ten is a completely different album. So it's apples and oranges for me really. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Just to set the record straight...I absolutely love Lotus Flow3r, so when I say 20Ten is his best since then, I too, am just stating the obvious. Since I sometimes don't take my own posts too seriously, I have to be careful! I would say I almost love U2's Horizon, but really really like might be more accurate. Breathe, Magnificent, NLOTH, Boots are my faves. I really wish they woulda put Soon and Winter on there, and kept Unknown Caller off...but back to Prince: I think he is in the groove right now...other than MPLS Sound, it has been one great or close to great album after another from 3121 to 20Ten...and not that Musicology was bad...it just is not as consistent as his recent work. Huh... when u guys say Lotusflow3r, do u mean the album Lotusflow3r precisely, or the 3-albums package which also includes Mplsound and Elixer?
Anyway i'll add my voice to "the best album since march 2009". A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I think it slays LF, it's a more even album than 3121, so........best since One Nite Alone, possibly best since Crystal Ball or Emancipation.

U2 can lick my butt. They stole Grammy for best album from Prince back in 87 for Sign of the Times with their crap album Joshua Tree. "Hey Bono, it's called a melody, write one." "Sunday! Bloody Sunday!" I wish u heaven

Prince deserved the Grammy. I don't seem to recall an artist being able to actually steal a grammy. Had Prince left off It's Gonna Be A Long Long Boring Night, and replaced it with either Crystal Ball, or maybe the original Old Friends 4 Sale plus Witness 4 The Prosecution, he might have had the grammy. The failure of the Under The Cherry film probably is as much to blame though. He had become a joke in many eyes. Not mine. I love U2, and love the Joshua Tree, but it doesn't touch SOTT. A better argument is what was the second best release of 1987? U2's Tree or MJ's Bad???
You have to realize that U2 had a strategy carried out by astute Management, that led to the grammy in the first place. By 1987, Prince was managing his Managers more than they were managing him. Not touring the U.S. was the final death blow for SOTT's grammy chances, but the funny, and underrated Cherry Moon was the first near-fatal blow. Poor single choices, no real tour, unless you count the very small European tour, and countless other Management blunders led the loss of the grammy to the much weaker Joshua Tree. As a U2 fanatic, I hardly ever would call The Joshua Tree "much weaker." [Edited 8/6/10 10:22am]

I always mean the single disc. Since the other two discs had DISTINCTIVE TITLES printed on them, that's what I always mean. For example, Emancipation was labled disc 1, disc 2, and disc 3. There was no different title. For further reference, see Crystal Ball, The Truth, and Kamasutra. Not to allow others different opinions, but the 10 or so people I know that own these see my way of thinking on this...

When I refer to Lotusflow3r, I'm speaking of 2 discs. The 2nd disc is subtitled MPLSound but the entire project is referred to as Lotusflow3r. The vinyl has the main Lotusflow3r artwork on front, and then on the back cover under each subheading it lists the tracks for the 2 discs. I view it the same way I do Kate Bush's Hounds of Love album. Side One was labelled Hounds of Love, and Side Two was labelled "The Ninth Wave" but the entire project was called "Hounds of Love."
I try to pretend "Elixer" doesn't exist so it doesn't really figure into my calculations * * *
