Should Prince Have Done "Bad" with Michael Jackson? I've been thinking about this and I'm wondering, in hindsight, if Prince did the right thing declining to do "Bad" as a duet with MJ. His album sales were showing declining sales even back then as the Purple Rain haze wore off. If he had done this song would it have bolstered more sales for his follow up, "Lovesexy?"

Hell fuck no. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Might have done, might not.
I dunno, is the answer. 'Bad' might have been a better song if he was on it. I wish it'd have happened.
Here comes the inevitable lock. Probably.

NO, i think it would have been way to big.

yeah it would been have big but it also would have settled the feud between them Love Should Last Forever Even If It To The Purple Yoda From Minnesota

No. It wouldn't have been a good duet. "Just Good Friends" would have been better, and let Stevie pop up on another track, like maybe the bridge on "Leave Me Alone" or something. I also think "Another Part Of Me" would have been the best bet for a duet between the two (if we're talking about material on the BAD album).

That'd have been an event! The reason i firmly believe it never happened is Prince had no involvement in writing it. If they'd sat down and wrote a song together back then, swapped ideas, it'd have been killer. Not locked yet! Make hay while the sun shines!

Feud?
at worst, a tabloid created feud.
They had no problems with each other.

Guys, think about the VIDEO. Little tiny Prince in ghetto gear acting like a hoodlum, showing MJ up. I die laughing just thinking of it.
They'd have to do some Beyonce-Shakira "Beautiful Liar" optical illusion shit to make them look the same size.
I'd be happy if they at least made a demo. Of course Prince had to go and spoil everything.

I don't think it''d have been Prince in the Wesley Snipes role. I think the video would probably be totally different. Maybe a 'Walk This Way' MJ vs P type performance video.
Ah well. | |

That. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No it was fine on its own. I think Prince made the right decision not to be in it.

I think "Just Good Friends" would have been a good fit for a Prince/MJ duet too. Prince could have worked on the lyrics and music and brought it up to par first (it's always been just "off" as a track) It doesn't work at all as a duet with Stevie. I love Stevie to death, but not on this one. Having Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder fight over a girl makes about as much sense as Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney fighting over a girl.

When Chris Rock interviewed Prince asking about it, Prince confirmed it. He said, "That Wesley Snipes character, that would have been me."

I think the world would have imploded if they did the song together. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

HELL TO THA NAWL.
With that said...
Prince may be short, but his "bad" would have been more believable than wittle Mikey trying to act hard. The video is still funny to this day when I watch the faces MJ makes because no one took that seriously [Edited 8/4/10 16:15pm] "For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

I don't see how this song could have been a duet.Which verse would Prince sing, the first one or the second one? and the chorus would have sounded ridiculous, with both of them proclaiming to be "bad" at the same time, lol.

It really wouldn't. It was Quincy Jones' bright idea too. I don't think neither MJ or Prince wanted to do it together. It was designed as a MJ-only song only. lol And thankfully that remained.

Wouldn't have liked to see Prince anywhere near MJ.
Just in case you wonder, that's a big NO.

Are you guys KIDDING me? Refusing to do that was the most ignorant. narcisstic, stupid thing Prince has ever done. Imagine it, the Bad video has more than 40,000,000 views on YouTube, that could of been Prince in it. That's on my top list of things I would go back in time to change music-wise.

I agree with Mr. Sewell. I think "Just Good Friends" would've been a more appropriate track for MJ and Prince to do together. MJ and Stevie could've done something else, and maybe put it out as a single. I'm a big MJ fan...I've thought about it for a long time....and I think Prince did the right thing. I don't think there was any animosity between them. Stupid tabloids must make a big deal out of nothing. Elvis had Frank Sinatra, The Beatles have the Stones...and then they start MJ vs. Prince. Totally unfounded. They were cool with each other, from what I gather. Prince came to Neverland, and MJ came to Paisley Park and they hung out together as friends. .
Bad was best left to MJ. Wesley had to get a break in the biz somewhere!
Although....it would've been cool just to see it. Eh, a girl can dream....
