Hi RealMusician, you had some question about my post. Here are my answers:
Enough for what? For me to enjoy his music Maybe he doesn't want to. That's just too bad for me then. Maybe he's doing exactly what he wants to do. Maybe. Maybe not. I doubt it.
Lazy (...), right? You do understand me do you.. Well, who decides what's necessary? Me, if it comes to what i think. And i was writing about my thoughts. To share. On a website where you share ideas about a real musician.

This has to be the worst analogy of all time.
Anyone who continuously keeps buying pineapples that have a turd inside is an idiot.
Know what I mean?

Of course we're all entitled to have thoughts and opinions. What bothers me is that most people in here seem to treat their own thoughts and opinions as universal facts, basically claiming that everybody who has a different point of view is wrong (including Prince's ideas about his own music!). But I'm glad to see you have a little deeper understanding than that.
Still, I think the tendency of being accusive about "missing" qualities in a work of art (even if it's just a personal opinion) is unfair and unnecessary. Many times we really don't know what the artist's intentions are - unfortunately that doesn't stop people from making assumptions about it.

This bothers me as well. It's fine to dislike music, but it seems unfair to judge it for what it is not. Judge it for what it is.
More specifically, when people suggest that an album is bad because they want guitar, not horns, or they want funk not rock, or they want dirty, not clean, they are giving an opinion based on taste, not judging whether it is a good funk album, or a good rock album, or a good clean religious album, etc.
I'm not defending 20Ten here, but I see this kind of critique in film, music, books, all the time "I just wanted the good guys to get away...I just wanted there to be more rocking..." but there wasn't and how can you judge something for what is not there? My Legacy

Let's remember that the 'Unreleased Material' that we know of or that you mentioned does not exist much today. If you are speaking of the boots that some of us know and have them yeah, they're not the same. P's music now as some others have said, hasn't lost a step, it's still top notch and the best you'll hear from a one man band. The lyrical direction as I've said before, is what has changed. Hell, I've changed. I'm more spiritual and I find myself looking at things differently then I did when I was in my teens or 20's. I was raw and hardcore about things myself. It kinda reminds me of a conversation I had with with some kids that were all under 20. They don't think the way I do or do the things I like to do. Now, I like to chill and just sit and look at things. When I was younger I was all energetic and excitable and wanted to be "in the mix" of things.
As another memeber said earlier, I think P has lost the "starving tring to get on" musician. Ever since Purple Rain then A.T.W.I.A.D. he's been re-defining himself and looking to not be the 'mainstream', he even said it. He wants to be taken as a serious musician that can rock and funk.
P's music reminds me when I was young and listening to my dad's music and just getting acquainted with music, in general. P's music as Wendy said in Purple Rain is 'our music'. I love the Unreleased Music and I go back and listen to it almost every other day but, at the same time, I love the journey 'in the now' ...
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Of course I wouldn't, because it's crap. Just like the "For You" album is crap except for Soft & Wet and some incidental moments in songs like I'm Yours; but that's okay as he was just starting out.
