Great song, love it. One of the first (if not the first) Prince singles available as a cd single in the UK.

didn't know that, thought the cd-singles started with Lovesexy.
Anyway, this is the song that got me hooked on Prince. Still remember i heard it for the first time on the radio and couldn't believe what i heard. It's one of the best songs ever written.

You are correct, just done some more digging. If I Was Your Girlfriend was a promo only cd. The first commercially available cd singles were from Lovesexy.

Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant discusses IIWYG in NME
credits - lifted somewhere from the org..... I can't get a link to work right...(I don't know why ?)
PS.... I really like the PSB's pop music too, Neil Tennant is cool,
his comment on Prince is right..... Prince 4Ever.
