Does anyone else think Future Soul Song is incredibly boring?

I've seen so much love on here for this song and I just don't understand it. Of all the boring slow songs he's put out in the last decade, this to me is by far the snooziest.

Don't get me wrong - it's not god awful....but it's just uninteresting to the extreme.

I'm perplexed as to why people are calling this one a classic. Does anyone else agree with me? Or have I finally lost my admittedly tentative grasp on Prince fandom?

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I don't really care for it, either.

It's not terrible, but I have hit "FWD" a couple of times... shrug

Can't believe any Prince fan would find it boring. To me it could be in my top 20 favorite songs by him. Goes toe to toe with his 80s greats.

I have to admit, I once thought this song was the best one on the album but it got less appealing every listen whereas "Sticky Like Glue" and "Lavaux" started to be more like the gems than FSS. I haven't played the album in like a week though...lol

Hey, I thought Adore was boring until 1989 when I really listened to it. Before that I thought it was a cheesy R&B love ballad that went over the top.

First listen I was hooked to "Adore". Big reason = PRINCE'S BACKGROUND VOCALS WERE SIIIIIIIIIIICK. Still am after 20+ years of hearing it on the radio/stereo. music

to me it's one of his more interesting ballads in awhile. there are a LOT of things that it sounds like it should be (an r&b falsetto love ballad), but isn't actually any of them. he takes the formula and turns it on his head.

it's certainly much better than the other 2 on the album, from its conception to its execution.

Statements like that always amuse me.

Prince has fans all over the world, of different ages, from different backgrounds. We don't all like the same things. Some of us like the "funk" Prince , some of us like the "rock" Prince, some of us only like the ballads. It's hard to say what a "Prince fan" would like.

incomplete thought edit

I'm a jack of all trades, I love all the music Prince has tried in his career. I guess it goes with personal opinions of how the songs sound to us.

For some the ballads can be exciting and then boring with others.

I'm as diverse a Prince fan as they come but if something doesn't excite me, don't care what genre it is, it just doesn't lol

I'm in the same boat of confusion aswell.

My theory on why everyone's going gaga for it is because of The Beautiful Ones microscopic water-down teaspoon of a feel it barely salvages to possess.

Which very well won't cut it with me.

The verses are kinda sucky and have a really predictible quality to them, reminds me of mid/late 90s R&B and even Emancipation era. I like the chorus though.

Far be it for me to say but there are a couple of tracks on 20ten that seem to provoke a "this would be so much better if he had...." - this track is one of them. If the start had been like the rest of it, light breezy falsetto then it would be an entirely new song...the rib-crushing grumbly voice seems to take away from it.

HOWEVER. for me I really like his track and his grown on me more and more - 20ten starts with the song and the previous 2 are just prince clearing his throat and coughing up nastiness smile

This thread don't seem negative, as the thread suggests, some folks are bored with the guy lol I said SOME. For every person who makes a thread about how 20Ten is not up to par, y'all will come up with how great it is. It's not "more popular", this is the ORG it's always been 50/50 here lmao wink

I don't think it's negative to have a preference.

...come on!!! You should never, ever have any other opinion than Prince is a genius 100% of the time and that each track is identically perfect to the last and next. You must embrace the same changes in beliefs and religions as Zprince and you must worship every associated artist no matter how brief the association may be

If you don't agree with 'Prince is untouchable' and you haven't bought Tevin Campbells latest album then cancel your membership here immediately!!!

Eh, I wouldn't call it an instant classic but I like it. It's a lot better than the ballads on MPLSoUND. For me the guitar kind of saves the song.

The arrangement of the voice is great. When he changes from his low register to his higher register, the way the vocals are layered. The lyrics are also very good.

I like the airy production and the guitar playing on it.

It is a grower and, as I said, if it wasn't for that god awful growling drone that starts the song it would be beautiful...imagine a crisp falsetto (not this off key style where it sounds line his voice is breaking he seems to favour in recent years)...I think it helps that the lyrics paint a picture and aren't just there to rhyme...again an all to frequent occurrence recently (any lyric whete you have no choice but to put -a'right/alright to rhyme with tight, night, fight it shite)

On first listen I immediately disliked it, but because of all the love it was getting here and on Facebook I listened 2 it repeatedly, put it down, and tried again trying 2 see what people see in this song and why it's being hailed as a classic. And I just can't see it. I just don't like this song at all. I thought it would grow on me like "Call My Name" did, or even "Act Of God" which I was unsure of at first but is one of my favs from the album. But FSS? IMO, a stinker...cool guitar solo though.

There's your answer - it's a difference of opinion because you've just mention 2 of the mist 2 dimensional songs in recent career .

Call my name - is a shoe-horn rhyme fest with appalling, APPAULING lyrics and off key singing.

Act of God - is Princes 'Ironic' a look-at-me-aren't-I-clever song that gets all of it references wrong (bankers don't sell houses for a start) and him droning on about slavery AGAIN like he has anything in the world that he can't buy and being locked away for speaking out...a blatant ego trip where he things shit like that song put him up there with Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Mandella, Ghandi
