Prince no longer sings with his heart and soul Ever since Prince became a Jw... we don't get songs that have a raw feeling of heart and emotion to them... The last heartfelt ballad was "last december" the way the melody and lyrics hit u.... It seems that prince is going thru the motions now.... Prince's songs don't have the heart and emotion like they used too... The songs aren't mulit-layered anymore... where are even songs such as " she gave her angels" or "empty room" anymore"?.... I miss the days when i was proud to balst his music with the car windows done.. BOB4theFUNK

There's a part of Somewhere Here On Earth that really got to me. And many moments on Lotus Flower as well that were as good as Empty Room if not better.

He's has had his moments of that, I won't say all the songs since 2000 have been heartless/soulless. Quite contrary. Probably a few in between but they're there.

i agree, but i dont think him pretending to be a jehovah's witness is the only reason he doesnt sing with his heart and soul much.
maybe it also has to do with his inspirations, muses, and environment.
it might be hard for him to be real when he's surrounded by so much falsity.
but i'm glad for the songs he's sung that came from a real place, when he was still in touch with the things that really mattered. this too shall pass

I hate to disappoint you - and I know you're going to object now - but the notion of "heart", "soul", "feeling", or "emotion" as elements in music is really more of a myth than anything else.
When an artist or a performer makes his music - whether he's composing, singing, or playing an instrument - it is a physical activity. This physical activity is usually determined by intellectual and/or intuitive decisions: the choice of words, notes, rhythms, etc. These choices can of course be triggered by the artist's emotional experiences.
The sounding result might - or might not - then trigger emotional response from the listener. Sometimes that response correlates to the artist's original intention, sometimes the response might be a totally different one. Sometimes the music triggers a specific emotional response even though the artist felt no particular emotion at all to begin with.
My point is, we can never tell whether someone is singing "with heart and soul" or not. We can only say what we perceive. If we feel a performance has a lack of emotion, it's usually just a lack of tools and craftsmanship. Artists are actors, their job is to fool us, to make us think it's for real. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not - with the greatest artists, we shouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Despite what a lot of people think, princes music has changed because of age and wisdom, not entirely because of practicing a religion by choice. What is your main problem?
To whom it may concern: I love you! Humankind..be both.
