Will there ever be another official Prince website?

From the glory days of the Prince website when ther was free content, the opportunity to really explore the site and small cost downloads - will this ever return.

If not do we see the future as P being constantly involved in free give aways once a year at best - surely this goes against his idea that we should be able to listen to everything?

Is there a different emphasis on quality when the album is bought rather than included in another purchase?

I think 20ten is a great album but would love to see another one wrapped around a central idea or theme.

I have to agree - I am sure that I have come across a couple of prince websites that have the url reserved but no content as yet - whether this is official or not remains to be seen.

Why he turned against the internet is unclear - was it the complexity of the lotus website or simply that there was not enough material to back up the subscription fees without ruining the potential newspaper deals?

Not sure - I love 20ten but would also love my $77 back or whatever the uk equivalent is

Prince should hire me to make his new site. It would rock.

You're probably better off making a donation to your favorite charity. He has a bad track record in e-commerce.

If Prince could have a website that fits the business model he wants he will do it. Maybe if Prince owned all the master recordings to his music he could do a proper Prince website ( maybe like U2's website).

I liked the old NPGMC. I had horrible Internet service back then so downloading music was difficult. There were a few albums I did not get that I wish I had.

My observation:

I believe the concept of Lotusflow3r.com was very good and could have been great.

I also believe that LF.com sank because of the fans boxed

too many whiney, spoiled, negative-O's killed it before it got off the ground.

Hence--no more candy for us.

Hopefully he'll try again, but if he does I hope those same types will learn from that excercise and re-think their tactics.

how can you blame customers for a company's poor business model? They paid money and many got ripped off. Please explain how "whining" causes a business to operate poorly.

Firest with caveat: None of us knows what the "business model" truly was; however, that being said--It appeared that the intent was to present the website with its initital content and add or continue to build (add more content and ticket offers, possibly merchandise, etc.) as subscriptions increased.

As I'm sure you know, sustaining any business venture = capital and is determined based on ROI.

If the whiney people had shut the up, more subscribers may have joined thus providing additional capital to support the addition of more content....yadda, yadda..and so on.

Since we're talking--I also do not believe Prince was the sole responsible party for the website-- most businesses in essence turn their e-commerce sites over to "managers". Perhaps it was not advantageous to them.

Just speculation though.

I'm not prepared to second-guess Prince. I recognize he's played ball at a much higher level than I or many of the people here will ever think to achieve. So, second-guessing his business deicisions is ridiculous.

One more thing: I know if I spent $$ on marketing and the first reviews were not good, I'd pull the plug too--that's a smart business decision. Perhaps Prince listened to the whiners and agreed? Why throw money down the proverbial commode?

I do not believe anyone got "ripped-off". I got what I paid for and expected no more. I like most hoped it would grow, but alas (see above).

If i count correctly, i've had EIGHT completely exclusive tracks for my $77, not one single additionnal thing: EIGHT songs!

That's $9,52/song so yeah, at 9,52 bucks a song i felt i was ripped off lol

On the other hand you could say that for me The Hits/The B-Sides was maybe 30 bucks for 6 exclusive tracks and that 5 bucks a song is quite expensive as well, and i'd say this was a rip-off too, but that one was from WB, not from the beloved artist i directly give my money 2.

On the other hand, NPGMC 2001 was just wonderful and sooooooooooooooooooo worth my 100 bucks. I wish Prince would offer large amount of material again like he did back then.
