Purple Music

This track is just sick.

The groove here rivals Sexy Dancer and Head. I was all excited to hear that he had performed this recently in Paris, but sadly he only played a snippet of the song. (2 minutes out of 6 or 10, depending on the version you have.)

Still, it is extremely odd that he'd just randomly throw in an old bootleg on a setlist that is otherwise pretty normal...

Hopefully he's listening to his older material to gain inspiration. Haha.

It's all just theroizing, but I did find it interesting that he played this song so close to meeting with WB. If memory serves there isn't any swearing in this song AND he's singing about not needing drugs because the "Purple Music" is his high. Also, I'm pretty sure it's just him singing and performing everything. That would seem to make it a great candidate for an extra track on a re-release of a WB era album (or another vault release). However, just fanciful theorizing.

An extra track on a two disc 1999 remaster?

we can hope.

That is a SINFULLY SHORT performance disbelief the song was in desperate need for him to pick up a rhythm guitar and let loose.

Absolutely one of my fave outtakes from him, it illustrates everything I love about him as an artists.

Some folks don't like its repetitiveness, but its the exact same reason why I love it. But I also love the subtle things within the song like the guitar playing after he sang We'll make a wish and then we'll visit purple paradise.

If I'm not mistaken, it was replaced with "All the critics" to be in the album. I can understand the decision being that "Critics" might be more accessible to some listeners.

It was a painfully short performance, i was almost in the throes of celebration when it cut into All The Critics.....

Purple Music and Moonbeam Levels, two of my favorite outtakes from one of my favorite era's.

God LORD!

Now on the other hand, I can't comprehend what possessed those people to replace this with "Free"? Its one of his greatest & most heartfelt ballads ever.

That song did not deserve to be collecting a heap of dust in some shitty vault.

lol I quite like free, but Moonbeam Levels is the superior track imo.

Maybe one day we will get to hear all this good stuff in pristine quality.
