77 Tracks 4 that $77 T-Shirt That Don't Fit I was just thinking with my ever-shrinking brain: Prince placed 77 tracks on 20Ten to represent the $77 he took or shafted us for on Lotus Flow3r. Imagine the ultimate slap in the face to fans: I take 77 from them, and then make 77 tracks to symbolize the 77 slaps!! Even more funny: I will continue to have tracks run into one another to make it hard to make an edited copy, and the tons of empty tracks will also make them have to edit the silence out!!! Ok, although I sort of agree with the post I am writing. I really love the music of Lotus Flow3r, and strongly like the music of 20Ten. I sorta like some of MPLS Sound, and Elixeur(my dummy spelling.) I just hate ol' Ecnirps Business Practices, and really did wonder if the 77 tracks was him making fun of us for losing our money!

That's some illogical ish right there.

By the way, I'm down to about 212 pounds, so I figure if I can eat some more salad, and get to 195 or so, that damb T-Shirt may fit. Then again, it might shrink if I finally wash it!!!

Wow, I just posted this like seconds ago. Did you have time to figure out this was illogical? I am being honest. I like/love Prince's 2000-2010 output much more than the average fan, but have to agree that his business practices are usually crap. I know Prince is obsessed with the number 7, but I thought my post was at least sarcastic, mildly funny, and at least somewhat honest!

yes stillwaiting, you could be right about the # 77
and I agree... it is a shame and disappointing Prince isn't putting more into his promotion / business,
- no site with tour downloads, he could easily do this if he wanted - no re-masters of old albums - no extended versions on singles like he used to in the 80's - he could easily make some ext downloads for us, if he wanted

i never understood the want for so many re-masters of older albums why in the world do you want the same old albums with the same old tracks?

in fairness to Prince i believe he meant well with lotusflow3r.com
as soon as the site opened, people were complaining, critisizing, making rude comments
for days and days this went on as members learned how to get around the site
whenever he updated it, there were more complaints
not to say no one complimented the site and had nice things to say about it
but the complaints and criticisms far outweighed the positive feedback
maybe that kind of reaction is something Prince deserved, or maybe it wasnt
nevertheless, he stopped updating and closed the doors and walked away
i only hope he had a good long look in the mirror on his way out this too shall pass

and............after hearing the new morning audio and seeing the clips-man i could and would forgive and forget pretty much anything for nights like these
surely-these nights are why we're all into him-his brilliance and talent-which yeah gets overshadowed way too much
on nights like new morning in Paris-im so impressed i couldn't give a shit about the past
forget the damn $77 OR YOU JUST AINT GONNA GET THE FULL PLEASURE FROM THE MUSIC
your choice-its not rocket science

Above Poster wrote: forget the damn $77 OR YOU JUST AINT GONNA GET THE FULL PLEASURE FROM THE MUSIC
My reply below:
Uh... I am quite capable of enjoying the music, despite Prince's sometimes hideous behaviour towards his "Fanatics." I mean the guy put 77 tracks on 20Ten to make fun of us blowing $77 on a website that mimicked some Doom game, and did not have normal easy links. Not to mention the damb thing was buffering everytime I tried to use it with my high speed connection.
I am someone who can get much joy and happiness from Prince, but I'm not afraid to admit he screws with us from time to time. In the age of the CD, he was pressing up Tapes of Jam of The Year/Face Down, and The War!
Same guy makes music so wonderful I am thinking how lucky I am to be alive in this day in age. I know my Grandfather likes Lawrence Welk, but Welk never had an "Old Friends 4 Sale." Ok, Welk was likely just a bandleader, and not a real composer, but you know what I meant.
Everything in life has a positive and a negative in most cases. With Prince, the positive far outweighs the negative. If I were a lifelong Rod Stewart fan having to live through American Songbook Part 487, I would just want him to quit... [Edited 7/24/10 22:49pm]

The "guy" DID NOT put 77 tracks on his CD to make fun of you.
The "guy" likes the number 7. [Edited 7/24/10 23:48pm]

Right. It was a complete coincidence. Kinda like C-NOTE didn't mean anything.

F.U.N.K. was also simply a victim of timing. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

But it was an awful, awful site, charging damned near 100 dollars. Does the NY times even charge that?
The menus were not standard, there was no customer service hotline, the videos didn't play correctly unless in full-screen mode, and the download links for the albums originally didn't work.
As a matter of fact, nothing about the site felt professional. It was just a really terrible site.
Fans may be fans, but at $77 , people have a right to sound like consumers.
If any of us half-assed our job commitments because we didn't like our customers, we'd gotten much more than rude comments.
lotusflow3r was an amazing failure based in the shadow of a string of failed projects---he learned absolutely nothing from previous failures. Absolutely nothing.

What's the story behind C-NOTE anyways. I don't know anything about it.

The renaming of Xpectation C-note PFunk No More candy 77 tracks
Nothing new. P has been acting like a petulant child for years.
Without WB, his god complex has been allowed to truely shine.

hear you loud n clear thats why i said i hope he had a good long look in the mirror...
my point was more about him meaning-well, despite his megalomaniacally driven intentions
this guy lives in a bubble where he thinks everything is fabulous
when he gets an idea he runs with it like a little kid, often employing totally inept people
but i dont honestly think it was ever his intention to deliberately rip anyone off
disgruntled consumers are the result of his blindfolded approach and employees whose hands are tied
but i still think its true that people were complaining the split second the doors opened before they even had a chance to get around the site
like i said maybe he deserves that kind of reaction for being so damn obtuse and as you say, failing to learn from the past
prince fans may have valid complaints, but there's just as many if not more times when complaints occur out of habit than good reason
i never signed up to be a member anyway, there's no way i'd give Prince my money, considering his propensity to completely waste it
i also dont believe there's any need for him to charge money for a website or downloads
for me it's very clear he wasnt happy with the number of members, nor the complaints
so he up and took his ball and went home and released this new CD with a paper
whether 77 silent tracks is a secret coded prince message about $77 i have no idea
he might be teasing us, or maybe he just cant think of another number lol
keep in mind when a man is caged up for that long he tends to wind up going round in round in circles
this too shall pass | |

He released it in response to the complaints about the $100 charge for the NPG Music Club. Well, not so much in response to those complaints...he did it in that typical passive-aggressive way of his. The album is named using the first letters of all the five songs, which are all instrumental except the last one: Copenhagen, Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, and Empty Room.

You think losing 17 pounds will solve that problem?
If you were a REAL fan, you'd lose 77 pounds.

And I want to say this, on a serious note:
67 BLANK TRACKS IS THE STUPIDEST IDEA SINCE "THE BIG BANG THEORY". (Yeah, like hot girls are gonna flock to THOSE dudes.)
Prince said the Internet is dead. He said digital music is bad, because it fills your head with 0's and 1's. But what happens when you listen to "20Ten" the old-fashioned way - on a CD?
YOU HAVE TO WAIT THROUGH 67 TRACKS OF 5 OR 6 SECOND SILENCE TO GET TO THE LAST TRACK! Seriously, that is just nonsense.
Hey, you want to know what's even dumber?
I have a 5-CD player hooked up to my stereo. Yesterday while washing my car, I loaded 20Ten, some Van Halen, Cars (get it? Cars?), ZZ Top and Steve Earle. Yeah, I'm funky that way. Read my signature.
Anyway, I put in on "Full Random", which is the old-school version of "Shuffle". BIG MISTAKE. BIG, BIG MISTAKE.
There were 60 tracks of music on the five CDs in my player, but there were 67 tracks of silence. Every other freaking random selection was 5 seconds of nothing, preceded and succeeded with 10 seconds of track selection/disc changing. Talk about interrupting the flow.
Ugh. Prince, don't do that again.
And besides, there's no such thing as a "Hidden Track". At least, not on a CD. Heck, the moment you put it in a player and the number of tracks comes up, you know the score.

I honestly can't say that I hate the fact that his CD had tons of blank tracks before the 77th track.
Nine Inch Nails did a similar thing over a decade ago with Broken....with hidden tracks. Even the NIN tape version had hidden tracks at the end.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I feel you, but I still maintain that on a CD, it's not "hidden". It pops up the second you put it in a player.
But a cassette tape - now THAT is a hidden track. The Clash did that on "London Calling".
I'd heard "Train in Vain" somewhere and wanted it bad. I knew it was The Clash, but didn't know the name of the song was "Train in Vain". I figured it was "Stand by Me" or something like that.
I searched The Clash tapes at the wrecka stow (I'm still fresh!) but no Clash tapes had a song with a name like that. Their latest was "London Calling" so I figured it was on that tape, just under a name I didn't recognize. So I bought it.
I listened to the tape twice. At least, I listened to all the songs listed on it. I didn't hear the song I wanted. I remember being so PO'ed that I was about to hit "eject" and throw the tape out the car window. At that exact moment, I was traveling through a tunnel.
I was about to pop it out when all of a sudden, what do I hear? "Boomp BOMP, Boomp boo BOMP BOMP"!
I thought that was the coolest thing EVER.

Anyone who really thinks Prince put 77 tracks on here to make fun of us idiots paying that much for the Lotus Failure site...well, are probably wrong. I am being my usual sarcastic self. It could be possible, though. After putting a "hidden" track on NPS, Rave, etc, I felt this is a played out trend Nirvana didn't do it first, but probably get the credit. Prince's music to me is still great most of the time. Some of his actions, like the 77 tracks, shows he is following trends, and not making them. Maybe he forgot that he had done the hidden track thing before. I never do the random shuffle thing anymore, but if you like that feature, this cd sucks.
I have already made my own version of the cd, editing out the silence, but Lay it Down has to be my least favorite on there anyway. Since my old computer crashed, I was without one for the ENTIRE duration that Lotus Flow3r was up. I figure if you make someone pay $77 for a website, that you at least keep it up for 2 years. Hell, I have bought multiple "Lifetime" memeberships from Prince that were quite short-lived. Some guy using the name "Show Nobody Watches" on You Haul Toobe has a video of the history of Prince on the web. He's very funny.
If Prince were really funny, he would have placed the 67 blank tracks after all the music, so you would think there is something, and then nothing...now that...has never been done before, but even that is still kinda lame!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm glad not to get all that silence my damn self... you probably can't do that here, it's weird how you can make a CD go up that high and it's actually the NUMBER of the track, that's just weird. Then again, Prince isn't what you call conventional.
I know he ain't aiming that 77 thing at me, you know, since I never went to that site.

he was probably inspired to act that way by all the childish whining of his so-called fans.
