Black Album: 1994 = remastered ?

Hi there, maybe it's been discussed before. If that's the case I'm sorry. But I was very curious: I read somewhere that the offcially released 1994 version of Prince's Black Album is remastered, using the original 1987 tapes and that they were "updated". If that's the case, that would mean that only the 1987 version holds the original mastering. Can anyone verify?

i can say it the 94 cd sounds like garbage. there are boots with better sound. So I can say with confidence it was not re mastered but taken off a secondary source.

There is no information i can find at all that may hint that the album was remastered or "updated."

It sounds exactly the same as the 1987 CD...

The 1994 issue of the Black Album wasn't remastered. In fact they just used the original 1987 masters 'as is', which is why it sounds so quiet and flat by today's standards.

The "release" sounds exactly like the bootleg. I have both.

Even back in the day I remember thinking "this sound sucks".

The release is a pro release that sounds much clearer than any bootleg outside of the vinyl drop boots that came out with the black and white prince scarf portrait on the cover.

But the release is using the same mastering source as the official SOTT, Parade, etc.

It was never properly mastered for cd release just like SOTT.
