Ooh Baby Baby by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Smokey is so sweet and sorrowful in it, but I think a Prince version would be completely different. Strip away the sweetness, add that Prince roughness and I think it would be more true to the actual lyrics.

That´s what I was thinking nod

For those who saw that leg of the Jam Of The Year tour in '97, Prince did cover "The Way You Do The Things You Do" by The Temptations in concert.

Speaking of Marvelettes:

I think people barely recognize that some of Prince's upbeat songs had a similar approach to the Motown sound especially considering songs that sounded like this. He could put this in the act if he was doing "Delirious".

I don't know if it fits the "classic" Motown sound, but Marvin Gaye - I Want You. I'd love to hear him and the ONA band stretch out that intro and jam on it.

Oh, wow. This is one of my favorite Jackson 5 songs, yet I had never heard her original version. Nice!

I have a boot called Funk Brisbane Funk, from the 2003-10-27 soundcheck in Brisbane, where Prince performed this. drool It was a more traditional arrangement, though. He performed it a couple of other times, too, around that time.

'Never Can Say Goodbye' - J5.

Slowed down, new arrangement ala 'Little Red Corvette'. Room for screams. Oh yes.

nod That would be a great choice, too.
