Somewhere Here On Earth

I know U're out there
I can feel your eyes on me
I've seen that face a thousand times
If only in my dreams

I know U really want me
I can feel your hands on me
I really wanna touch U, 2
In a way I'm much 2 shy 2 speak

And even though I'm all alone
4 what it's worth U're somewhere here on Earth
And I like it

I know U're out there
I can feel U getting closer 2 me
I'm just wondering what U're waiting 4
U know I am free

In this digital age — U could just page me
I know it's a rage, but it just don't engage me
Like the face 2 face ... U wanna do this at yours, or my place?

It's been so long since I been with somebody
Like a million years
But now U're here on Earth
U're here, U're here

Somewhere here on Earth
And I like it, I like it

Listen...
I know U hear me
Like a whisper in your ear
U don't have 2 fear me
U're everything I hold so dear

I know U already love me
U're probably just 2 cool 2 say
Somebody, somewhere put U down
But that's ok, that's ok

Cuz whatever U feel, it's time 2 heal
No, no more hurt as long as I'm here on Earth

ROLLING STONE

Prince Planet Earth (Sony)

"I love you, baby, but not like I love my guitar," Prince leers in "Guitar," between blasts of heroically pointless Edge-style soloing. It's his most slamming summer jam since "P Control" in the summer of '94, or "Alphabet St." in the summer of '88, or maybe "Delirious" in the summer of '83.

What did people do for fun in the summer before Prince? Planet Earth is one of those albums he makes when he's trying a little harder than usual, if not hard enough to alienate his core audience, which loves him for indulging himself.

" Planet Earth" and "Lion of Judah" continue the hard-rock groove, while "Future Baby Mama" and "Somewhere Here on Earth" revisit his smooth R&B side. As for "Guitar," he's decided to jack the post-punk revival, so he swipes a guitar riff from U2 ("I Will Follow") and a bass line from Duran Duran (the same song that provides his album title). Wily bastard

I never thought about the bassline sounding like "Planet Earth" by Duran Duran. It's funny because on their last tour they played 2 songs in a row to a sampled loop of the the Sign o' the Times beat and John Taylor played the bass line from Hot Thing (he even told me so at an afterparty himself! I was the cameraman on a local video interview, and managed to talk to him and Nick Rhodes about Prince lol )

Ah, good times nod
Very cool stage, the only problem was it's position in the middle, which caused some sound issues. And the former npg members got the bad seats in the back...
The aftershows were cool. Indigo2 was a nice and easy location. Dancing on Prince funk in a small venue while sipping on cocktails cloud9 it's an experience I hope to have at least a few more times.

The title track, Lion of Judah and Guitar are really fun to play on guitar as far as getting your rock on... the rest is good for pure listening pleasure.

The One U Wanna C

Oh...

I know I ain't the first 2 tell ya
I sho' bet I won't be the last
I know U're in a hurry, baby
So let me make this fast
Do it...

CHORUS:
I've got a lotta money
I don't wanna spend it on me
I like pretty thangs — U're just as pretty as U can be
So if U ain't busy later
And U want some company
I ain't trying 2 be a hater
I'm the one... I'm the one...
The one U wanna C... U wanna C

Listen...
Look around U, baby
U know U seen it all before (Before)
Every nickel in this club lookin' 4 a dime
Nothing less, nothing more

2 tall 2 be talked down 2
(U're 2 tall 2 be talked down 2 — yeah yeah yeah)
2 over it 2 be put under (Any spell they could find)
Any spell the blind fishermen could cast
That's why I come like thunder 2 tell U...

I got a lotta money
But I don't wanna spend it on me
I like pretty thangs and U're just as pretty as U can be, oh, oh!
So if U ain't busy later
And U want some company
I ain't trying 2 be a hater
But I'm the one... I'm the one...
The one U wanna C... U wanna see
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah) {x4}
Hey

Oh, alright

U don't need 2 fix your hair
4 somebody U don't care 4
U don't need 2 shave your legs
If it ain't me that's knocking at your door, oh!

I know U ain't no concubine
I know U ain't a one night stand (One night stand)
I don't wanna waste your time
If U wanna get creamy...

I'm the one U wanna C (The one U wanna see)
Ooh, the one U wanna C baby (The one U wanna C)
Oh, the one U wanna C (The one U wanna C)
Wanna C, wanna C, baby please! (Please)

(I'm the one U wanna C) (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Talk with me, don't tease
(The one U wanna C) (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
U know I could bring a woman 2 her knees
(I'm the one U wanna C) (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'm the one, babe, U wanna C
(The one U wanna)
Coming on U like thunder

(I'm the one U wanna C)
Let no man put asunder, not this time
(The one U wanna C)
Get down one time, get down 3 times
(I'm the one U wanna C)
Hey girl, daddy don't know
(I'm the one U wanna)
Na na na no no, oh!

(I'm the one U wanna C)
The one U wanna C
(The one U wanna C)
I'm the one U wanna C
(I'm the one U wanna C)
I'm the one U wanna C
(I'm the one U wanna)
[...] {fade out}

Guitar" is the first single from Prince's 2007 album Planet Earth. This song was #39 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

The digital single was released in MP3 format through a partnership with Verizon Wireless, and O2. The music video for the song, featuring his current dancers "The Twinz" premiered on the Verizon website.

The song was released to radio stations on June 11, while the CD single format was released worldwide on July 9.

Although not as successful on the charts as many of his other songs, "Guitar" entered the Top 40 of the singles charts in four countries: Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan, where it peaked at #10 on the singles chart

As a taster for his 21 dates at the O2 arena in August, Prince played a two-hour, late-night secret show at the 1,500-capacity Koko in London last night.

Superbly backed by a new line-up for the New Power Generation, which included two Beyoncés-lookalike dancing twins, singer Shelby Johnson and a horn section featuring Maceo Parker, it was a performance few of the people lucky enough to squeeze into the Camden venue will forget.

Coming on stage at midnight, he teased us with "So many hits, so little time". Punctuated by solo turns by Parker and Johnson, the 20-number set included Kiss, Nothing Compares to U, Girls and Boys, Musicology, and ripped-up versions of U Got the Look and the Hendrix-inspired Let's Go Crazy. As well as a broad sweep of his back catalogue, including tracks from last year's 3121 album, there were covers of Play that Funky Music, Amy Winehouse's Love is a Losin' Game and Gnarls Barkley's Crazy.

During one extended jam, Prince disappeared from view and emerged in the middle of the audience on the first floor balcony, grabbing a handful of fans to join him on stage. It all proved too much for one girl, who leapt on the singer and attempted to straddle him as he lay on the stage before being hauled away by security.

Doubtless she was carried away by the sheer hedonistic euphoria, generated not only by the man himself, who even at the age of 48 did nothing to belie his status as music's supreme performer, but also by an ecstatic audience.

"You give me the energy to do this", he told us. "At the O2 we're gonna turn that thang out. They're gonna be the best shows you've ever seen." You better believe it.
