I really enjoyed PE that year. I moved into a new house and neighborhood and listening to PE helped that transition go smoother. The guitar work on the title track was and still is amazing. Somewhere Here on Earth may be his best ballad. I love Resolution. Some of these song have a Revolution feel to them in their sound. I remember a questionaire NPGMC had right before it was shut down. A few of mine and others suggestions made it into the songs. Prince reads these posts and does listen to us. I still love the PE cd.

I have good memories of it, it was a pretty fun era besides the music. Over analyzing the front cover, all the corset and chest hair jokes The great stories from Orgers who went to the London shows. Working out who the F Chelsea Rodgers was. The rage some had over Mr Goodnight. And of course the legendary Superbowl performance. idk, I enjoyed it.

This is my least favorite collection of songs between 2000-2010. It has some great moments like the title track, somewhere here on earth, lion of judah. Guitar is one of my top ten least favorite Prince songs of all time. I like the instrumentation but not the lyrics. They make NO sense. The One You Wanna C is too forced. Its a good pop song but it needs more energy. I have never been a big fan of these style of songs by Prince though. Like I have never really been a fan of You Got The Look. My fav track of this style is So Far So Pleased. Oh yea and Future Baby Mama is one of the weakest ballads of the past ten years. Its pretty but just no. However I like the playful Mr. Goodnight. Chelsae Rogers is ok but its not one of the best to me.

This album ain't bad. It falls apart a bit with at the end, but I can't deny Prince is a prolific MOFO and has mastered every genre. I just don't think these songs go together too well. I don't think the same kind of person who would like "Guitar" would like "Mr. Goodnight."

NO.
Sorry, but everything you just did/said is wrong.
Firstly Prince played Koko on MAY 10th 2007 and secondly that picture is NOT from the Koko gig.

For me Planet Earth was a let down. But let me explain. I was pretty stoked after Musicology and 3121. Both seemed to be Prince getting back to melody and some actually catchy songs. Now I appreciate both sides to him.. he experimental and the pop hits sides. But after what seemed like forever in experiments.. Raibow Children, One Nite Alone, The Live set (more rainbows), A disc of long funk jams, 3 albums worth of princified Jazz.. my interest was started to fade again. Then a friend had got his hands on Musicology a couple weeks in advance and I really liked it, and then got it for real when it hit the stores. While it's no masterpiece.. I kept hitting repeat on several songs. Then later 3121 came out and I loved it even more. A friend had clued me in that a new Prince track was on vh1. "Old Prince is back!!!". I saw Black Sweat and got so excited that he brought some electro-funk and a brand new dance called the "sssssstt...UNH!". I played that cd a LOTnot all perfect cd.. but the good stuff outweighed the couple so-so tracks.
Then I heard that free demo mix of Guitar. To this day I prefer the demo. Kinda interesting, a little more rock.. then I tossed it aside waiting for a new album. Then the stories of PE coming out for free.. although it wouldnt be free in the states. I picked mine up day of release at Target. didnt even pre-download.
I played it through twice in about a day and a half. The opening track was quite a buzz kill. Save the world! Save your soul!.. My mind went to "yawn" before I was 2 minutes in. Then "Guitar". But first I thought "Holy crap! That's "I Will Follow!". I didn't like it that much. He took a simple tune and beat it to death with layers and layers again. But it still sounds plain and uninteresting mostly. But i did like how he added the "you know the rest" line.
From there on I forget the track order. "The One U Wanna C" was good, bouncy.. very much Baby Knows and Cream redux.. but fun still. I was mad that I had to go online or put the cd in itunes to actually see the titles.. which Resolution came up Revelation. being such a non-energetic tune I thought "wow wouldnt he have a much more exciting revelation?" Mr Goodnight.. I like that one. the chimey bits remind me of old 80s quiet storm type songs i hear every now and then. Then the bit about his private jet and all that. Wait weren't we saving Planet Earth?
Chelsea Rodgers was the other highlight. I just cant help but feel like it didnt belong and should be on a Sheby J "solo" record as its more about her voice.
"All The Midnights" I couldnt even recall the tune if pressed to. Lion Of Judah.. too much religious subtext that didnt make a point. Prince striking his enemies down. Too bad those enemies are the ones with interest in your music. Next! And the same note intro as Purple Rain was such a tease that became nothing. ing former members on an uninspired track doesnt always make it inspired all of a sudden.
And the last part. The craptastic packaging. I love the 3d image dont get me wrong. But it falls apart the day you open it. and when the only difference between the free version and this is a plastic holder (that once the spindle breaks youre screwed).. thats a big ripoff. It's one of the few times I felt like $10 was too much for an album. It would have been a better EP or something. Then the 2 year wait til Lotusflow3r... For me it was one of the worst periods of the decade as a fan.

What a crock of shit.
PE is miles better than both Musicology (bland) and 3121 (overrated).
I enjoyed this era. The album is definately one of his stronger 00's releases, although I could've lived without Mr Goodnight.
21 Nights was good fun as well. My only gripe with those shows were the tediously rigid and predictable setlists. It's not as if I was expecting him to come out and do All My Dreams, but a few more songs from the new album wouldn't have gone astray.

i agree with you 3121 and musicology were both shit

His weakest of the Musicology thru 20ten period overall because of its inconsistency. Some good tracks - Guitar, The One U Wanna C, Chelsea Rodgers, SHOE
And some of the most cringe-inducing moments of his career (Resolution.... Mr. Goodnight.....)
