Don't fret. No one's forcing anyone to be in possession of this release, by... I don't know... putting it in one's morning newspaper. That would be just crazy, wouldn't it? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think what Robinhood is saying is "Is this illegal?" nobody is directly going yes or no-instead just saying blah. So is it illegal? Surely Prince can have this blocked or at least be a sueable offence? I'm not saying Prince should but is this the case or not

Sound quality?
If it's a free dl where I normally go, fair enough. FBG most often is. Funk is its own reward.

What was the audience size for the gig? Sounds like there's only about 50 people there!
Thanks FBG, great release. Just wish he'd ease off on all the damn Sly Stone & GCS stuff and play more of his own stuff. How great would it have been to hear a couple of choice songs from more recent albums instead of the same old tired covers. oh well, still great for the actual Prince stuff. You can never go wrong with The Ride blah blah blah

Ok had a listen and I have to say that if I'd have been to the concert I'd have been a little disappointed. Prince doesn't actually sing on a hell of a lot of the tracks, leaving more than usual up to the audience and then we have the issue of too many covers and too many tracks sung by the backing singers.
When Prince does sing, he's great, I just wish he'd do it more and on his own tracks.
Oh and if I had been at the concert, I'd have hunted down the guy doing peacock impressions all way through Purple Music and given him a much needed bitchslap.
Thanks to FBG for releasing this for free, it is really appreciated. Great quality recording. I just wish there was more purple music on the setlist. blah blah blah

True. But MacFLAC works just fine for converting the files to .wav. I've used that for years. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

For an audience recording, it sounds fantastic, I think. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I usually avoid audience recordings, but i agree with you about this one. A little more Prince would be nice, but for a freebie it is very good indeed.

Yes the bootleg is not Prince's intent, but in the case of Prince and hard core fans like myself, the unauthorized music and albums might even be more important and entertaining to us.
I can honestly tell you that my favorite album of Prince's is the Black Album. And, it was only a bootleg that I kept buying better copies of year after year until its official release 5-6 years later.
For me the discover of literally hundreds upon hundreds of bootlegs comprised of concerts, rehearsals, and often the actual studio recordings... all of them packaged in a myriad of fan made artwork/design that often approaches a conceptual level beyond what Prince chooses to officially make... well this is what makes Prince fun and deep.
Plus often I do believe his original takes on songs (like Elephants and Flowers) is superior. And I think that his completely alternate versions of songs (like Irrisistible Bitch and Tick Tick Bang) are fascinating (you know like Spock says).
So in one way you are getting stuff that does have the input of another engineer or artist... but on the other hand you are getting a much more complete picture of Prince's art. And Prince's work and art taken as an external force once it gets out of him surpasses his self contained intent and scope of vision (he often limits development of his work with his impatience but that paradoxically is what leads to so much work). What it does for me is to give us the merest glimpse into his process. Which, speaking as an artist in my own right, is the part I find most interesting.
As the great Hal Riney said...
The frightening and most difficult thing about being what somebody calls a creative person is that you have no idea where any of your thoughts come from, really. And especially, you don't have any idea about where they're going to come from tomorrow. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's indeed the Joni Mitchell song and it's sung by Elisa Fiorillo I think. But if you're expecting a exact copy of Joni's jazzy rendition, you might be disappointed, it's more of a bluesy call & response type rendition with the lyrics changed to fit the mood/place. [Edited 7/29/10 11:53am]

I hafta say...when I listen to Stratus, it gives me almost the exact feeling as the opening Instrumental Jam from the Small Club. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I wonder if No One Else was a cover of the Weezer song. The lyrics to that song would suit Prince quite a bit.

Please folks, don't ask where you can get it in these forums. It's the first hit in Google as long as you include the correct search words. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Squirrelgrease and Ufoclub both covered this subject pretty much with their replies, but I'd just like to add a little extra.
No one involved in putting these releases together makes any money from them - it's done for the appreciation of P's music and for the benefit of the fans. So are FBG depriving P of revenue? Well not in my opinion. If these live performances were to be officially released, the same people who have downloaded the free version are the same people who would immediatly go out and buy the official version - let's face it, these releases only really appeal to the hardcore fans who buy all of P's music.
These releases may not have P's seal of approval*, but the way I see it labels like FBG and 4DaFunk have helped keep interest in his music going amongst the fan community, especially in times of lacklustre 'official' output. Box 'O' Chocolates in particular helped remind people of his genius - it also came out around the same time that P released Purple & Gold/Cause & Effect/Hot Summer, and so helped off-set the widespread disapointment those official releases caused.
In fact I'd go so far as to say if it hadn't been for the various boots that have been released over the years, P's fanbase would not be as large as it is today.
Oh, and with regards to the artwork, while I can't speak for other labels, I know that for the most part the artworks for FBG & 4DaFunk are designed to complement his music while at the same time adding a bit of individuality to the release (and not just using an exsisting promo shot with a bit of text over it).
*Although let's not forget - even P admitted to owning a few James Brown bootlegs many years ago. "Everybody want what they don't got..."
