I think the best time to be a Prince fan was when he was actually releasing relevant material. The buzz and vibe from all the news outlets talking about the next great Prince record.
Now, Prince is the laughing stock of the internet because he wrote its epitaph in a magazine. | |

Oh true, true. Absolutely. I've lived it since 1983 and there have definitely been better times to be a fan. But, short of him making statements like that - which isn't really a NEW thing - these days you wouldn't have to live through all of the nineties to hear that music. The name change. The slave thing. Prince burying himself in the NPG records. The JW conversion and The Rainbow Children (the first of which I don't care about, the second of which I like, minus the silly vocal effects). The Joy Fantastic albums. I just think it would be nice to become a fan now at a time when there is access to so much material, both official and otherwise. To be able to listen to everything from the beginning righ up to 20ten, drama free. Think about all the things you'd be hearing for the first time. That would be magical. | |

Everyone else, seriously guys its this attitude that stops new people coming into the world of Prince. How can we get more admirers of Prince, if all we are going to do is shoot them down, because they didn't buy a copy of Dirty Mind on its release day. We all forget that our newbie are basically announcing their commitment to Princelately (My made up word from philately - the study of stamps) Princelately is the study and admiration of Prince's musical output. The more newbies that announce the admiration, the better and yes I think Purple Rain is a great introduction for any Princelatelist. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time | |

Congratulations. I envy you in a way..so much to discover. I suggest you take a trip back in time and look at some of the early albums as well as appreciating the new.
It doesn't matter how long you have been a fan, just great that you are now.

yeah, Sign O the Times is my favourite album. My second favourite is Gold Experience. I've gone on record as saying that 20ten is the best thing he's put out in the last 10 years.
