I would like to know is does Prince ocassionaly sings in his falsetto voice in concert?When was the last time he ever sang in those high notes of his?I'm thinking just beacuase he's older he just normally sings in his lower tenor voice,most of the time.I could be wrong,though.I think he still has it.Anything folks?Peace!

At the latest concerts he regularly used to sing falsetto as well.

I saw him live at one of the european concerts and he did sing *** high.

His voice is still really good these days.

He said in one interview that it is easier for him to sing in his higher voice then to sing

lower, it takes him a lot more to sing deep.

On the first concert this summer on the song Kiss he sang that high falsetto screaming as on the record

amazing he hit those notes ,

maybe his natural voice detorieted a bit,sound hoarse(maybe i'm wrong )

but his falsetto is untouched,if he wants he can sing a falsetto the same way he did in his younger

days .

He overuses his falsetto.

It's quite common for Prince to change parts that were done in falsetto on the record, to his lower register chest voice when he sings them live (very rarely the other way around).

I'm not really sure why, but it might have something to do with the following:

• Intonation

The falsetto register is probably harder to control - especially while jumping around on stage, playing an instrument, etc. A lot of times, Prince might feel safer singing those parts in his chest voice instead of risking being out of tune.

• Volume

The falsetto is usually not as loud as the chest voice. Although this is not a problem for the FOH engineer (just turn the mic up), the two voices might feel differently for the person singing. Especially when you're surrounded by a loud band on stage (plus a loud, screaming audience), it might feel like your falsetto voice is not really getting through, it might be harder to hear yourself properly in the monitors, etc. For the singer, there is more physical impact with the chest voice.

• Voice economics

It's likely that the falsetto easier gets "worn out" during a concert, so maybe Prince simply wants to save his resources.

When he does sing falsetto live, it's obvious that he's still able to - so it's clearly a choice that he makes.

One other thing:

Prince has generally much more control of his voice these days (all the registers). It might sound like he's singing "safer" than he used to, but he's actually taking more risks, venturing off from the recorded versions etc - only he pulls it off so smoothly, not like in his younger days when he was more "on the edge" vocally (and also missed notes here and there).

The way he's grown as a singer reminds me very much of Ray Charles - the older he gets, the more he masters the subtle nuances. And while still retaining his full range and register, he uses it in a more economic and dramaturgical way.

Either his voice has changed or he's holding back. His falsetto still sounds good but it sounds too toned down. He used to sing really loud in his falsetto but now he seems to sing too low. Plus, it seems to have lost it's mean, sassy, "gayness" that it used to have. There's no attitude in it anymore. It's kinda like he's just going through the motions to get through the song. I've also noticed that when he rarely screams these days (something he should always do), the screams are usually in the background rather than up front where they used to be.

I was referring to that little George Jefferson strut he likes to immitate sometimes and that rediculous looking cane he likes to carry around sometimes.
