what colour/finish is Princes Honer Telecaster

I can't afford anywhere near the asking price for the Hohner telecasters that are the same as Princes but I'm at a stage where I want to replace my existing Tele and think about getting a similar looking one to Princes.

Trouble is I have no idea what colour/finish it is and whenever I look at detail of the guitar (even on Hohners site) it just says Tiger flame maple which is the wood and pattern not colour. Closest I've got so far is Butterscotch colour but can't get it in tiger flame.

Anybody have any idea what colour that guitar is (tried honey too) and has anybody got any pix of guitars that look similar that they either own or have seen on the net. Best I've got so far is Vintage reissue V52 which has the edge over Squier Affinity because the neck looks odd on the fender (way too light for a butterscotch body)

Thanks

well-i had a hohner artist the day they came out-and to be honest-it was alot more 'yellow/golden' than i'd expected-it kinda glowed when you opened the case like it was filled with gold-im not kidding

so-when it was new-his hohner i imagine was very 'yellow' too-but now has faded

any decent tele with a wood/varnish finish could be a contender cuz you can see the graining in the hohners

for me-what makes it-is the tortroise shell edging on the body-which im sure only the hohners have

it really is a beautiful guitar just to look at-in fact too pretty for me-so i sold mine

believe it or not-it was a little too Prince for me once i actually got one-and id wanted on for ages

now i stick with my US Fender tele custom-and leopard skin starp as a homage to P-the Hohner went just too far for me

Have you got any pix?

I'm on a real tight budget and have narrowed it down to these 2:

Vintage V52 (it has a grain to it which this pic doesn't show very well but link does have other views)

http://www.guitarbitz.com...tterscotch

Or this squire (but the neck seems way too light for the body)

I've also seen some fairly similar tortoise scratchplates and pickup guards that can be added.

Cheap attempt at copying I suppose but, in the absence if a real Prinz/Artist I thought these could be my tributes.[img][img][/img][img][img][img][/img]

Have you looked into the MadCat? You may be able to find more information if you search that guitar - it's the same thing, in fact, Prince probably replaced his Hohner necks with MadCat necks over the years because the logo is gone from his "Tele" in some photos.

The finish is described as Blonde Maple.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The bottom one seems like a natural wood doesn't it...bit normal.

With regards to sunburst that tends to be a light to dark pattern...my old tele was sunburst and was very dark at the edge and reall yellow at the centre

Also just noticed that the top one (vintage) has a much fatter Strat stow head than any Tele I've seen befirw

It's just a clear finish with vintage tint. The whole body is made of Maple, very heavy. The neck is maple as well with the clear finish with vintage tint.

To me, the headstock is what makes Prince's Hohner guitar iconic - and also why Fender took issue with it. I wouldn't deviate from that shape if it were me. All the other bits can be added and the body can be aged to approximate a 35 year-old stage worn guitar. If you can find a cheap Tele in need of some TLC, it might make for a fun project.

Thaw wh I chose a tele-style as my first guitar a while back, not cuz of Prince but because the headstock is alway much slimmer on the tele than a strat which is why that picture is odd

Usually it's referred 2 as a “flamed maple finish.”
