Prince on Oprah Transcript (Emancipation Era) I just found this and it had some information about Prince that I've never known. http://princetext.tripod.com/i_oprah.html
How many of you actually saw this episode?
My favorite line from it:
OPRAH: So you felt, as an artist , enslaved?
0{+> : Yes.
OPRAH: Mm-hmm. It sounds like you've grown.
0{+> : No, I'm pretty much the same size.
What is your main problem?

I saw it when it aired. Prince had always been an enigma to me. After that interview, I was truly disappointed to say the least. I mean, talk of being in "therapy" and discovering he has someone else living in him, and not knowing if it's male or female? WTF? Mayte sitting there next to him like a puppet looking at him for approval to speak. WTF? Then the interviews just kept coming and everytime he opened his mouth it just got and gets worse. Obviously someone who has way too much time on his hands. That makes me think of Michael Jackson climbing the tree at Neverland and asking the interviewer, "Don't you climb trees"? TRUE BLUE

seeing Oprah working out, doing excercise... to the track "Emancipation" was baaaad....
also her calling Prince for "Prince" - and not "" and she is embarrased and say something like "you should slap me", oh dear this was baaad too.
Embarrassing, the Oprah interview was really awkward. Prince 4Ever.

Has Oprah written any books with thoughts and reflections of her time the show yet? If so, does she comment on this? If not, it's one of the things I'd be interested in knowing what she thinks about in hindsight. I'd be willing to be she'd never have a bad word to say about Prince, though. Just doesn't really seem like her style.

Poor Prince. There were some really personal stuff that he should have kept to himself. He appeared to be going through a lot. Giving an interview might have been too much.
On a positive note, he gave a beautiful performance.

Nah probably not ... she did that when MJ died - she dedicated a whole episode to it, and talked about what is was like when she interviewed him in 1991.
Unless Prince dies before Oprah goes into retirement (next year?) , we'll never know.

speaking of Prince and Oprah,I found this little blurb on another artist's fansite...
[JUL 26] Let's start with Oprah fans. (Yes this is still a Donna Summer site. LOL) As most of my US readers know (probably even those of you who don't watch the show), Oprah is going off the air after next season. So her website is asking viewers of the show to suggest guests for the final season. I think you all know where I'm going with this, right? I can think of at least one guest I'd like to see on the show and I'm sure many of you can too. If you would like to make a suggestion, just head to Oprah's site and use the email form. (The email form lets you write whatever you want so it's probably a good idea to say why you think Donna should be on the show. You can also list several names in case you have a few people you'd like to see on the show.)
just something to think about,guys.....

It would've been nice, but even if he granted the interview, I don't think he would open up(esp since good ol' Harpo would sniff around his personal business). He guarded himself firmly by now and he has always seemed cagey when it comes to doing interviews.
The ONLY interview I could think of him where he seemed relaxed, was in a magazine unfortunately and that was the Rolling Stone interview from 1985.
But then again, that might have been the writer's talent.

And the ONE memorable moment I remember from the Oprah interview was Oprah's "WTF" expression when he performed "Do Me, Baby" I loved how the poor thing tried to put on a straight face through out the performance.
He picked THAT song(out of his whole catalog) to perform it in front of Oprah's audience(out of everybody else), I love it

Was the interview the Spice Girl did bad? I seem to remember it being fairly normal for Prince at the time.
