I want to comment, but I don't want to add my personal views on religion into this, so I'll just say this:

It's disappointing... probably because declaring something like a specific religion, ie. "I'm now one of Jehovah's Witnesses..." means that this person, well, specifically Prince, who had always been so free spirited, has now chosen to box himself into one idea, one dogma, one set of rules. The reason I and I would assume many others have loved and admired him for so long is because he never seemed to limit himself, he was that free creative spirit that so many of us wished we could be like. Now it seems that he's turned into a sort of clone of the JW faith, no longer original, just one of the rest. It's kinda sad in that way, like a close friend who's sort of disappointed you. He's always spoken of God and spirituality, but it was always so organic, which I never had a problem with.. now its just... sort of... creepy. :/

That being said, although I don't think it would be the right choice FOR ME, and I see a part of his creativity suffer (wether or not that's because he's a JW now, I can't really say, I'm just speculating), but he seems very happy so that's all that matters to me. I almost want to say that since I admire him so much, if he came to my door to talk to me about JW I'd let him in... (and I'm in NYC and there are PLENTY of them here, none have ever been inside my house, I don't even open the door.)., I guess I'd figure since there is a genius at my door offering me the Watchtower or AWAKE! Or whatever the hell they give out, I'd listen to what he had to say. Or knowing me, I'd probably just memorize every tone of his voice and his hands so I could dream of them that night. batting eyes

Prince esta muerto...

I'm so with Anne Rice-that is where I went in my late teens. I almost felt that to be a christian was to betray Christ. However in terms of Prince I feel that he has spent so much bloody time on the debate, I think he had to settle or go mad. Ther would be no right choice from wher most of us are coming from but I do feel that being loaded, famous and having an inkling for God would make you be drawn to one faith. I know truth should be truth and we wanna argue against what we don't believe but people like Prince and Madonna et al are in a far different place. (Don't come back on me about Madonna-I'm just talikning about the isolation of fame). These people do have faith and are probably far more disappointed than us-so ...

Disappointing indeed! I agree with you jaybendy.

But I don`t think it`s speculating to say that creativity suffer when artists get in the religion "box",

for me it`s common sense. Believing in God/being spiritual can certainly trigger some creativity but following an organised man-made religion is not at all the same path.

n

whatever... confused religion doesnt effect ur creativity if you truly believe the principals and concepts of your religion

if its conflicting with your creativity then your ass needs to find a new religion or belief to follow...im just saying confused
