I can't even imagine that Prince has even heard of "Swizz Beats".

Face it, if your claim to fame is making "beats", you are not a musician. More power to you, but you have no business hanging with the real McCoys.

I think he sat next to him (or near him) at the BET Awards.

I can think of at least 20 hip-hop producers that I would rather Prince work with, than Swizz Beatz.

The problem with hip-hop producers, imo, is that they work within a very set range of "beats" (which is to say, drum patterns) and then add either the sounds they hear in their heads or samples of somebody elses music. Prince has more sounds in his head than are good for him, a ton of his own (evidently) pre-set drum patterns and absolutely no need to sample anybody elses music. I would like to hear what would come of Prince working with a solid producer, but none of the hip-hop guys would be on my list. My list would be, like, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, Trent Reznor (would never happen, but I'd love it if it did!), Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. I'm sure I could think of some others if I really tried. But basically producers who have worked with other mega stars and would have enough confidence to let Prince be Prince, but still be strong enough to tell him "no, you can do better". Even if you don't like their music, listen to the sounds that Rick Rubin has pulled out of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. How it sounds both warm and crisp at the same time on CD. I'd love to hear what would come from Rick hanging with Prince in some studios for about six months.

After hearing what Rick Rubin did with Neil Diamond a few years ago, I would love to hear a Prince/Rubin collaboration, myself.

I have nothing against Swizz or any other hip-hop producer, big or small. Quite a few of whom can actually read and write music as well as play multiple instruments. They've just chosen to express themselves through this artform.

My point is that I don't think Prince needs to get with a "hot producer" to try and make "hits". Prince is producing songs on his own that are better written and more interesting than a great deal of what is currently considered pop music. But he has no team supporting him and as such nobody forcing his new music on ClearChannel and CBS Radio (which he seems to understand since he's started premiering tracks on local independent stations). Personally, I don't think getting with Swizz or any other "hot producer" (shot of maybe Dre) is going to make any difference in that regard. In fact, it's just as likely that he would get shit for trying too hard or selling out to what's considered "in at the moment" instead of sticking with his own thing.

I DO still think the right kind of producer could make a serious difference in the quality of a Prince album. But I don't think it will do a damn thing in regards to the man ever having "hits" again.

Last but not lease Prince is a free agent...he can release anything he damn well pleases now. He sacrafoced not having a "hit" anymore and chose to save his money instead of giving it to Clear Channel. Smart move.

Three reasons why he shouldn't:

1. Beginning Endlessly

2. Lavaux

3. Laydown
