Did Prince rip-off this album??

Ish Ledesma formed the group Foxy back in 1977.

This is his solo album (quite good and VERY a different sound from Foxy), which was released in the summer of 79. "Prince' came out in October of 79. The covers are very similar and well as the sound of each album.

The Single "Don't Stop" has Prince written all over it, which polls the questions, who stole from who?

well, the cover of Prince's album was not the pic in the jacket, so the covers don't look much alike, and I doubt Prince ripped off an album in Summer of 79 & released the results by Oct 79 (though he does work fast hmmm )

My thoughts are that lots of creepy guys posed shirtless in jackets in the late 70's and that lots of music sounded disco-ish like Prince's first 2 albums did.

As fate would have it...eek...I was in the midst of listening to "Just As Long As We're Together" when I saw this thread!

Somebody as sure as shit...stole something from somebody...who exactly...I don't know. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Other than the no shirt & jacket & eyeliner (which alot of guys from the late 70's were doing)

& the fact that they are using the same vocal range, the 2 songs sound nothing alike.

The fact that they are both "disco" is the only thing you can say they "ripped" from each other. If you could say that at all. confused

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Interesting that P looks black and this guy had the lighting blur his colouring. Maybe that's what P ripped off?

Oh gosh, you can't expect us to start in on this topic when we still haven't haven't come to a conclusion yet as to whether Prince is gay or not.

Baby steps!

Interesting find. for me, stylistically its similar. its got that same synth line as the early Prince albums do, plus the way the bass is played at certain points reminds me of Prince. Doesn't help that the dude is singing in falsetto! lol But for me it's all stylistically similar to Prince's "Prince" album, which may go to show he just wasn't quite the trendsetter YET. Nice find though, cool song

I'm hoping you are right. this kind of stuff depresses me tho. I know "Talent borrows and genius steals" and I can imagine that by his sixth album this bloke couldn't come up with Purple Rain bit still it makes you think... theft

It shouldn't depress you really; only a gifted few can really create a new sound and change the course of what pop music will sound like. Stevie did it in the 70's, Prince did it in the 80's. At least back then Prince was just a very talented musician who was ready to explore new ideas in production and sound. Its harder to find that these days in this pop music landscape.
