prince after show in new morning, paris, 23 july 2010

i was there, a few hours ago. i was told about this oncoming gig at 20:00u. i live in antwerp, belgium, so i drove to france like hell to get there in time. the venue could have about 500 visitors, yet only about 400 were really there, gently cueing.

i ended up in the very front row of the venue. i even, at a moment, touched his feet.

this was the Best Concert i Ever wittnessed. "sometimes it snows in april" - not just a snippet, but the entire song. the very obscure early eighties demo 'so high'... the fabulous new song "dreamer".

he played the bass like larry, but even better.

he looked gorguous, dressed in black with a high colar.

prince is duke ellington.

he turned the club into a gospel shag.

everybody went nuts.

he played for more than three hours. without any entiring support acts; just him from the start till the end.

i said:"prince, we love you." he looked at me and waved me a gentil kiss.

now i see it is not even so bad that he turned into a jove's wittness; his shying away from sexual themes had opened a way to give and take an experience of shere love, energy, optimism, beauty.

he is not arrogant at all. he treats his surrounders, even his audience, as equals.

he was very happy.

in the end, he walked away through the frontdoor. al of the audience went straight after hem, and that was it.

thank u purple reign

Oh shoot. I didn't get your comment at first, but I didn't recognize the 'So High' song title, either. Then it clicked. You could be right, and that would definitely be cool.

Great setlist. nod

Very interesting that he's playing 'When Will We Be Paid' after the financial issues he's had in the last year. As well as his comments and the discussions they've created about getting "paid in advance" for his music.

I know it's reaching, but I also find it interesting that he's pulled out something as old and obscure as 'Purple Music' so close to having discussions with Warner Bros. Just a thought.

I wouldn't mind hearing a piano version of 'Future Soul Song'.

So, was Larry playing with him during the after show? Is Larry in the band again? confused I'm feeling slightly confused all of a sudden. Regardless, I'd rather hear other Prince song in place of the Sly and Larry songs.

that was a funky re-take and i liked the positive approach;

Prince has music to share, and he shares..."celebrity" status

is not much 2 him...he is who he is, and people dig him.

yes, 'miss you' is the stones-song...

no, larry wasn't there. yet prince himself played a base-solo in a very larry-esque way. but even better. i don't say that jsut to boast, that base-thing was incredibly virtuose.

he went through the frontdoor i think because there was no backdoor, though i'm not sure. since the audience was so small, it was a relaxed way for him just to take the frontdoor.

when he did 'so high' (or 'purple music') the instrumenation was as basic, spartanic as the early eighties sound.

really? u were there too?

whoever in the audience who wanted to say something, like suggest a song to play or make a remark, easily got that chance; there were loud applauses, but each time before a new song started, the room went silent, just to be able to hear each single note again.

so if ever this gig will be published (and it will, since it was instant legend), -- my voice will be on it, saying "prince, we love you" ?????

too funky
