He played the song semi-regularly on the Hit N' Run tour in 1986.

It's a close brother to "Blue Limousine" (Apollonia 6) and "Toy Box" (Sheila E). I love that you can still hear Brenda Bennett on the backing vocal.

I agree with that. I've played '17 Days' and 'Blue Limousine' back 2 back and it's cool 2 listen 2 them like that.

I love the song also. There is no official extended version of the song but, it's been said that an extended version does exist in the vault.

His B-Sides were stellar back then. Damn near all of them could have been A-Side singles in their own right, including 17 Days.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The juxtaposition of the sad and lonely lyrics against the upbeat rhythm and happy sounding "la la la la la la la lalala" is pure Prince genius.

'Prince had originally intended his classic tracks "Manic Monday" (later recorded by The Bangles), "17 Days" (later used as the B-side to "When Doves Cry"), "Take Me with U" (released on the Purple Rain soundtrack) and "The Glamorous Life" (recorded by Sheila E. in 1984) for the Apollonia 6 album but he soon lost interest in the project, knowing Apollonia's voice wasn't up to par. Even her take for "Take Me with U" took a while. Prince left her with engineer Susan Rogers to work on the track"'

i love apples and appollonia 6 forever <3!!! but now that i think about it there no singing asses couldnt have pulled these songs off falloff

"Oliver's House" was another song intended 4 the Apollonia 6 album. "17 Days" (along with "Sex Shooter" and "G-Spot") was originally intended 4 the secord Vanity 6 album that was planned and was in construction until Vanity left Prince and company in mid-1983, it was cancelled. It was later considered 4 the Apollonia 6 album.

17 Days is by far my favorite Prince song. But I thought it was odd that it didn't sound good live.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

that would have been a hell of an album when you think of that a-list material that was gonna be on it!

Even those didn't do it for me. It just seemed to fast live and didn't have the same heartbreak that the studio version does. I seriously cried the first time I heard the song, the emotion in his voice and the beautiful way the music flowed, perfection!

I've never heard that nugget of information. Thinking about it now, it makes perfect sense. Oliver's House is one of my very favorite under-the-radar Purple jams.

I mean a Prince song that is really good and that has a characteristic or special sound, a song that meets all those criterias. But I know that 17 Days is much loved among fans and I'm glad you like it.

This is the FIRST time I see you posting a thread, Chris smile and I agree, one of my FAVE from Mr.Nelson. I'm glad he didn't give it to Vanity/Apollonia.

Called u yesterday
U didn't answer your phone
If you're the one who's always lonely
Then I'm the one who's always alone

YASSS touched

Love Brenda's voice too.

I can only imagine how the second Vanity 6 album would have came 2gether and what that would been like 2 listen 2 or even Apollonia 6 album at that matter. Either way, I think it was gonna be a great and interesting album. If Prince didn't lose interest in the whole Apollonia 6 project, this was gonna be a great album on our hands and I think it would have been (musically) an great follow up 2 what Prince did in 1982 with 1999, What Time Is It?, and Vanity 6 album. The better songs, he gave away 2 others or he kept 4 himself. "Blue Limosime" was cool, don't get me wrong. That was their "17 Days". I just hope that there r more unreleased material from the Apollonia 6 album. WonderU, those 2 versions were great! I love those versions!

The cigarette thing was there precisely because it was to be an Apollonia 6 track.

Then, he decided to keep both the song and the cigarette mention.

He likes to do stuff for people that cannot really sing. He re-arranged the song for the Twinz to sing during his Las Vegas 2006 stint. Actually quite an interesting re-arrangement; it sounds like a lullaby. Then the Twinz fuck up the lyrics.

I love how he gave it to the girls to sing, though. It sounds good with female voices. But it needs other female voices, though. I wonder; would there be a Brenda version?

I love to find out what your "special Prince feeling" consists of, as 17 Days has a total Prince feel for me. Like über-Prince.
