How about distribution through North American newspapers?

Why wouldn't, or couldn't, Prince just duplicate his distribution deal with U.S. newspapers and/or magazines?

Although the main reason SEEMS to be to promote his tour.

But, still, why couldn't he just do the same thing here?

The US doesn't have much in the way of daily entertainment tabloids, if any. Our bathroom newspapers are weekly. A glossy music magazine might be the way to go - Slash did it. Or even Ebony could have a cover-mount.... oh, wait... never mind.

He could staple that bitch to a box of Cap'n Crunch. That would be new.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The Osmonds did that already lol Seriously!

Or maybe it was the Jackson 5 with Alpha Bits, but somebody stuck a 45 rpm wrecka on a box of cereal and we had to cut it out, slap it on the table and play it!

Agreed. It seems the only way artists are making money now is mainly through ticket sales at concerts, which makes sense as to why Prince is always playing the hits. I guess he figures if he played the new material and the majority of the audience didn't like it they wouldn't ever pay to see him again.

But then why put it out in Europe via newspapers anyway? I guess if he released it on European labels he probably would've HAD to perform them.

Holy crap! I forgot about those. I ate a lot of Super Sugar Crisp, so I vaguely remember those 45s.

I think he still wants his new music heard, and I'm sure he did get paid for the newspaper deal. How much, we don't know. I'm sure it was nothing like he used to get.

I think I'm out of the loop.

What happened with Ebony? Was it confirmed that the album was supposed to come with the magazine and then something happened and it got cancelled?

It wasn't confirmed officially, but there was supposed to be a cover-mount CD with that Ebony issue and Hot Summer was probably on that configuration of the CD. As Prince has stated, there were 3 albums at the time of 20TEN's release. Why was the CD not included with Ebony? Theories abound, but Prince has been very indecisive as of late regarding album titles and configurations, not to mention logistical rush jobs that may have played a role in the cancelation.

Gotcha.

Well, perhaps it's a good thing it happened this way. Maybe the lukewarm reaction to "Hot Summer" gave him food for thought and he changed the configuration for the better.

Who knows.

Ironically enough, the easiest thing for him to do right now regarding a US release would be a digital deal. But given recent comments, that appears unlikely.

Yeah, the "internet is dead" and "iTunes won't pay me up front" comments don't bode well for a pay-per-download system from Prince anytime soon. It's a shame. But on the bright side, it means he still likes the CD format as do I.

Yeah he's unlikely to set up a digital deal anyway. But I wonder what he would do with the CD after July's over...

I believe it's because most of the us magazines and newspapers have ties to the music industries record lables in some form or fashion! So that would be the last thing that they would want to do! It takes money out of their pockets!!
