You should rephrase the title of the thread like this:

3121 and Planet Earth are EVEN WORSE than 20Ten.

First of all, I never seperate the discs when rating Lotusflow3r unless that's how we're discussing the album. The rest of the time I rate it as one release. Just like I wouldn't seperate out discs on Emancipation or Crystal Ball. Although, The Truth is pretty bad ass on it's own. lol

Second, I honestly can't remember what Resolution sounds like. confused Weird.

I can respect your reasoning, but Emancipation was Disc 1, Disc 2, and Disc 3. Lotus Flow3r is the name of one disc, MPLS Sound is the other. The 3rd disc is not even performed by Prince, so I just can't see the logic of calling it one album. Just my opinion, but there has to be a good reason that each disc has a name.

so would you separate Crystal Ball and The Truth (and Kamasutra)? they're obviously different projects bundled together.

if so, why not LF & MPLSound?

I actually started to go into this when stillwaiting responded but I got a little sidetracked.

No, honestly, I wouldn't. Even though there are actually different configurations of that release, the cover only has the Crystal Ball name. The same goes for Lotusflow3r. Also, if you look it up on Amazon it's listed as Lotusflow3r, a 3CD set. It's nice that he gave the CDs seperate names, but it's all one release for me. Even Elixer, which still contains his writing, producing and performing.

PE never caught on me, I feel 20Ten is the same just with more nostalgia sound. They are still both better than MPLSoUND.

3121 is amazing though!

the cover only says Lotusflow3r. But the spine has all 3 titles. And MPLSound was released independently in France, correct?

Ummm.... I don't live in France and I only have the downloaded website version of the release. I rarely go anywhere near a Target store. lol

I don't think so. I thought it was a single download. But I'm trying to forget as much as I can about that experience.

Sweething

Each of these three albums does have a different character to it and I think provides the listener with a distinct lesson in musicology.

'20TEN' is way better than both '3121' and 'Planet Earth'. The first four songs ensure that. I prefer the sound on '20TEN' and it's nice to see Prince returning to his playful nature and disregarding trends. 'MPLSound' came close to it; '20TEN' achieves it.

For me 'Lotusflow3r', '20TEN' and 'The Rainbow Children' (despite any misgivings about certain lyrics) rank among his best work.
