Some similarities sure, but so what? He still looks like a rich prick for bragging about making a million dollars but having to pay the higher tax rate. How is his personal income tax rate connected to the subprime mortgage crisis? Answer it's not. And he sounds ridiculous for, feigning The Staples Singers civil rights era song style, and attempting to say that it does.

This article may have inspired Prince, who knows:

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/01/15/financial-meltdown-act-of-god-or-just-the-ungodly-acts-of-bank/

So he is not supposed to speak for people who are actually going through stuff in the world today? Is there any difference when he talked about the topics in Sign O The Times even though he was a millionare then? I guess we just supposed to hear about all his fancy women cash clothes and cars...

Last he never connected his income tax to the mortgage crisis..he compared himself doing his tours .... seperate verses different matter; and you tired to connect the two?

Does Prince have any thoughts on the stuff he puts people through? Say Lotusflow3r.com, npgmusicclub, etc. As for the rest of what you said, it's inaccurate, makes no sense and I can't address it.

Sweething

I believe people who are listening to downloads are getting distorted music and therefore their complaints are invalid.

I've listened to my CD (purchased from Amoeba Music, SF) and it's absolutely awesome from the first cut to the last. The music is superb and the execution of the melodies prime.

As another .Orger wrote, the lyrics are very straigtforward on this CD -- my feeling is... that's not bad; after all, it's one CD and Prince obviously wanted it that way.

If you accept the music, lyrics and style for music, lyrics and style, you can't help but love it.

P.S. I certainly care about taxes at 1/3 of my paycheck (and more if yo add in sales tax for everything I buy). So I'm glad there's someone who has a voice (to reach millions of people) who will stand up for the average person. More so-called celebrities should do that!

I don't care if he wasnt to pay his taxes or not. I just don't want to hear a song about it. Musically it's an "A", lyrically it's an "F". Average it out and for me the song is a "C". Another self-indulgent so-so song.

I think the point is more that he has to give up the money he earned to pay for stuff like bombs and has no choice in the matter, just like everyone else. Seems important enough to sing about to me.

Has he not the right to a vote? Besides who cares about his feelings and stuff for real. I just want a banging song about something I care about. His tax situation don't cut the mustard for me.

The tax lyric in Act of God is about his criticism in paying taxes that go to support wars and corporate welfare. Why is this so controversial unless you have been brainwashed by Fox News?

Who here is interested in lyrics about a millionaire who doesn't want to pay his taxes? Who is interested in hearing about "dogmatic persecution"? What about a gospel inflected by the numbers rocker that is likely a JW Watchtower article? What about a wannabe Staples Singers track? Dull, dull, dull.

Did you hear "dogmatic persecution" and get turned off because of its religious connotations? Taken within context of the song, I think that it's saying once the fear and control and dogmatic persecution of religion are gone, you are left with everyone in the world singing the same song.

I'm guessing you don't care, but I do. Hopefully other people do too.

I think you are absolutely correct about his lyrical intentions. I'm just saying I'm tired of hearing songs that reference that subject. I'm tired of Professor Prince showing up in songs. Good music is not that hard. Simple truths will do.

I really don't think it's birdfeed. I think he says "Never mind the bird behind me, just tell me your name." I think when he says "bird" he means woman I could be wrong. That is the only way that makes sense to me.

Yep, bird is UK slang for woman smile

Funny, cos you seem to be in a minority here! I love how some people think that what they feel is the same as the majority, when actually you have no idea!

Actually the minority of Prince fans are on Prince.org, the majority of them don't half give a damn enough to follow the music at all anymore.

Anyone that wants to hate on the lyrics remember...

"My love will be your food"

"Scrambled eggs so boring, for you're all that i want to know"

"Animals strike curious poses"

"I'll look for a needle in a haystack, that's automatic too"

I mean things you heard the first time and went "huh?" at least its not

"I love my shorteeeeee" smile

I will usually give Prince a pass on his lyrics and let them slide, especially now. To me, if the music great, it trumps whatever reservation I may have about the lyrics.

When it comes to his lyrics lately my main problem was that they have seemed forced at gun point, so awkwardly tacked on that they destroy the flow and feel of a song, ....not too much on 20Ten but overall in the last 10 years.

However....Two songs on 20Ten stood out for me because of their lyrics, not enough for me to hate the songs but definitely hits a nerve anytime I hear them. Both for the same reason. A whiny millionaire crying in his beer because of money.

Act Of God - "get a million dollars for people to hear me sing, got to give the banker half of everything"

Prince also has a brilliant revelation...

"I got news for you! freedom aint free!" No shit Prince, Americans have suffered and shed blood and tears to keep us free, while he moans about having to pay taxes. I get his point no one likes to pay taxes, but this comes from a spoiled perfumed brat eating chocolates, cheese and wine testing in the villas of Lavaux while wearing custom made silk ruffled blouses. The man is talented and blessed in many ways, including living in country that has protected his rights and freedoms and a system that allowed him to get rich singing about the raunchiest subjects.

Lavaux- Prince sounds like a little kid wanting to run away from home because his parents want him to make his bed and eat his veggies, and sings longingly about leaving the US and cruising the villas and vineyards of Lavaux and Portugal because....

"Life back home depresses me, just another form of slavery, the cost of freedom is anything but free"

Prince seems oblivious that not everybody is as financially well-off to spend their days wine testing and lounging in the the villas of Laxaux-ooo-oh-ooo-oh-ooo-oh-oh-ooo-oh

From singing about love and sex and "Money Don't Matter Tonight" and "Free" to this.

People change, and Prince is definitely a different man than he was 20 years ago, but instead of emotional growth and maturity, he comes off as completely isolated, bitter and sad with no clue as to what the rest of the world or everyday Americans struggle with anymore.

Prince and his lyrics on those two songs just pisses me off because he comes off as a complete and total dick.

I like most of the words to Act Of God but yes the "banker" line.. very spoiled brattish. If he doesnt like how things are he should vote.. oh wait he cant because he's a JW.. well he makes the choice. But most of the song is pretty valid lyrically.

I have a theory on the "supposedly to keep us all safe from Saddam" line..

1. Ooops Prince need sto watch the news.. Saddam is dead or.. my theory..

2. "Why did this war start? To keep us from Saddam? Wait wasn't it Al Quaida? What.. I forget..they've kept us confused"
