Point is.... should your opinions be given life at all? Is there not something in the .org rules about rumors and the opinions that lead to such?

I haven't posted anything that I didn't read or hear elsewhere and concluded there is some basic logic behind those bits of information I reiterated. If you feel that I am violating any org rules, please feel free to report my comments to a moderator.

Since you've been banned before, I'll assume you are quite familiar with the process.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'm not against any of you getting Prince albums as close to possible as we NORMALLY do in the States. It's good business sense and I think Prince is an artist of a high enough caliber to make worldwide releases happen.

However, Prince IS an American artist. I believe most of his greatest successes (album sales, tour grosses, even movie box office numbers - as laughable as that may be) has happened in American. The reason for this is his extremely loyal American audience. I don't think it's too much of a stretch, even now, to say that he's one of our most succesful and prolific modern songwriters. No matter what he does he still has the respect of a huge number of other American musicians, artists AND industry types, as well. For an American artist with his level of fame and respect to have released a new album OUTSIDE of the US, with no plans announced thus far to release it here, is just, odd! lol With every day that passes without an announcement regarding a release date in the US it becomes more and more strange to me. As I said before, absurd.

Don't get me wrong, though, I don't understand why previous discs haven't seen worldwide distribution, either. Just Prince doing Prince, I guess.

one word:economics. When CD sales are down (and promotion costs at an all time high), people stealing music, it is not cost effective to do traditional releases. Keep in my mind Prince releases 1 CD or more a year. The promotion for this output for traditional streams far out weigh the revenue returns. In theory "traditional" distribution could lose Prince money.

CDs cost nothing and Prince owns his own studio. The simple fact of the matter is he's taking the most money for the least amount of work. He could in fact independently release his own music, sell 10,000 copies and still make a profit. We all know he would sell far more than that, but there would be a lot more work involved in that business model. He's made it clear he wants to be "paid in advance". In my mind it's actually Prince who is stuck doing things the old way.

Maintenance, electricity, and mild security on the studio does not come for free. I would guesstimate 1 to 2 million at least a year. Promotion is the most expensive thing-studio second. Proper promotion in every country where a CD would be released through traditional methods would cost millions.-That's under the impression that an artist wanted a top 40 hit in more than 1 country.

I'll use my brother's band as an example: Although his band had 3 top 40 singles in the last year. All the Cd sales went to pay for the label, promotion, studio time for the CD. Concerts are the paycheck for the band. And they didn't go gold status. Why? Maybe people steal music or just buy the singles off Itunes. For those who care-I'm proud to say my brother's band actually writes music.

I would see Warners insisting on releasing an album with a slightly altered tracklist.

I don't see them distributing something that has already been released (and distributed by fans) without some kind of differentiation.

Perhaps, Prince isn't planning on releasing 20Ten at all. Maybe it's another project?

Who knows. I just think it will be very strange and underwhelming to release the very same product that has been heavily pirated at this point.

Everything SINCE 3121 HAS just been another project if you think about it... 3121 was the last album where he actually put PROMOTION behind. Planet Earth didn't have that much and neither did the Lotus Flower/MPLSound project and Elixir didn't promote Bria as a new artist to anyone except Prince fans. And this one doesn't seem to be promoted in Europe despite press releases.

Artists make pennies per cd sold if they're owned by a major record label. They make dollars per CD if they do it themselves. An artist of Prince's caliber could easily be 100% independent. It can be done, but it's a lot of work. Ask Ani Difranco. Ask the people who run Sub Pop, Warp or Dischord Records. It can be done.

- Well, so I hope he doesn´t mind downloads from other countries. Some people WANT to BUY the CD, but if it´s not available in the country or Itunes...

Prince should keep in mind that he is not only an american artist, but an international artist. He has fans in almost every country. And fans want his music, the same way he wanted James, Hendrix, Sly records when he was younger.

You can buy 20ten from the paper or Ebay-You can still get the CD-I am in America (USA) and I had to import the CD. confuse

I don't think traditional avenues are not going to be used-I just think not as often. Once the novelty effect of the giveaway wears -he will have to go traditional releases in some countries while the rest of the world imports.

For some, EBay is a last resort. I'm not taking it. lol

Some people just don't wanna do that. Others wanna buy from the tabloid in London and that's all good and dandy for them too, but I personally don't wanna take short cuts. shrug

Oh well if he doesn't put it out here, tough shit. We'll move on. biggrin

- Yes, you always have a chance to buy, but why does it have to be harder? There is no excuse for a famous artist like him not to sell albums in stores. Less famous artists have albums released in stores worldwide.

Prince has a very small fanbase here in Brasil, but most of his albums were released here (except for Rainbow Children, Planet Earth, NEWS and Xpectations).

I bought one from Ebay, and I already have it and am enjoying it, no big deal. What I am betting is that he will release one in U.S. and it will either have a really cool booklet inside that I am going to want, or an addition of a couple of songs, and I will wind up buying it again either way.

As for now, the sound quality is great, and I would have hated for the summer to end without having the CD.

I paid very little for my import. They arrived today, and noticed that the hidden track is not that hidden... it is below Everybody Loves Me on the back cover of the CD. It is artisticly written, and looked like vines and flowers at first, but is definitely Lay down... smile. Someone probably already mentioned this, but I'm in the woods half the time.

I paid a fraction more than $19.00 bucks for the import of two copies.

Nope. Exported sales on online markets in Europe don't count either. OK, I'm checking that it did hit SOME European charts like Belgium, France and the Netherlands but that's as far as Europe was concerned. It wasn't released in the UK at all, neither Germany, Portugal, etc.

I so wish he would he set up a site, even a dumpy one, just to have some fresh videos on. I think his marketing is far from complete without some WELL DIRECTED videos to endorse the CD. It just makes the experience way better for me personally. Lotus had what... Boxochoc and Crimson videos, both of which weren't very good at all. His video production has gone way down hill since 3121.

I don't see any difference between ordering thru Amazon

& ordering from a British tabloid.

I don't need a record store process

to make it a complete new cd experience.

For me its about the music

& not the politics of how a cd gets released.

I'm not going to turn up my nose to new music because it doesn't

fit the guidelines I made for my perfect little Prince Universe fantasy.

I have two copies of the paper and cd if anyone wants one. Either the cd by itself or the paper as well. Not sure of the postage but it won't cost much if it's just the cd I'd have thought. PM me (this is allowed right?) and I'll do some kind of lucky dip if there are more than two of you. Obviously you'll need to pay me for the postage smile

It would be so cool to se ethis given an official US release-type boost. I would purchase it again if it was in a jewel case with liner notes and not a stupid greeting card lol.

Extra tracks? Would be really cool. Would make it worthy of purchase. Many artists would jump at that. Prince? Doubt it.

If it get sa US release I think it will mirror Planet Earth. Instead of no foldout, it will be a digipack with a tray, but no further bonuses. Gimme your $10-18 and move on.

Come on Prince. Surprise me and make me a liar smile Add a dvd. Put it in a jewel case or at least an elaborate foldout (with the whole painting?). Make the other countries want to use ebay to get it from here smile

20TEN is available. The fact that some people believe themeselves to be above buying something from ebay does not make it impossible to get.. It is now the year 2010. Nothing is exclusive or rare anymore.

If Prince does not want to release the disc in the US, then let the man be. It's not about what an admirer of his music wants. It's about how much Prince will get paid. He is not a supernatural being with the abilities to discard any temptation lesser mortals might have to live with. He is a simple - although pretentious - human being, and he's just as greedy as the rest of us that have inhabited, inhabit or will inhabit this world. The more money he can make- and remember that the money he makes now is nothing compared to the money he was getting back in the day, no matter what he or his worshippers say - the better for him. I just find it weird that people hang on to his every word as it was gospel. It's okay to watch youtube. You're not a bad person for doing so. If his CD is not available in your country and has not been announced, then it is not a crime to get it from overseas. I can understand those that are against downloading torrents and such, but hey...

I love the mans music, but his fans sometimes ruin it for me. The man is prolific, but he is not a musical genius. Good songs show up at least once in every album, but great songs are few and far between. Quantity does not equal quality.
