1. Lotusflow3r - Instant classics "Dreamer" "Colonized Mind" I also love "Back To The Lotus" there are some pretty bad tracks here too, but I love his fresh artistic approach on this one.

2. 3121- One really great and original song "Te Amo Corazon" the production on this song is outstanding, as detailed and luxurious as anything he has ever done. Gorgeous and tragically underated track. Good tracks "Black Sweat" "3121" "Fury" "Get On The Boat" "The Word" but the bad is really cringe worthy bad though. Lolita & Love.

But actually not that bad of an album.

3. Planet Earth- Rated this high only because "Somewhere Here On Earth" is better than almost anything on all the disks below.

4. Musicology- I really dont recall anything on this. Nothing comes to mind other than the great time I had at the awesome concerts.

5. Rave- ? Same as above but without a good time at a concert.

6. 20ten- Not as terrible as some say.

7. MPLS- Yes, Its terrible and then some.

8. Rainbow Children- I absolutely hate this album from start to finish. Not just dumb, but aggravatingly and pretentiously dumb. Tired bland 70's fussion funk jazz schmaltz. They don t make bland 70's fussion jazz funk schmaltz anymore for very good reason.

I wont even get into the silly production flourishes like the god awful narration or alleged antisemitic overtones. Suffice to say its just a god awful mess all around.

1- LotusFlow3r - His strongest and most consistent body of work in this decade.

2- 20Ten - Edges out MPLSound through some intense funk workouts and one of his most genuinely touching songs in years.

3- MPLSound - Corny lyrics, rediculous hooks.

4- Planet Earth - More listenable and catchy than 3121; Half the album ranges from pretty good to great, the other half is forgettable tripe.

5- 3121 - Some of his more interesting and varied work in the decade is regrettably neighbored by a set of terrible, contemporary crap. Black Sweat is the modern day Kiss.

6- Musicology - Largely forgettable, but not offensive.

7- Rave - Strange But True and a few of the remixes off of In2 are all that bear mention.

8- Rainbow Children - Regrettably unlistenable due to the rediculous voice overs, nevermind the religious agenda. Should have been an instrumental.

Wow. This should be easy, but it's not.

as a dane/ non-english I am never listening that close & I never gets offended by Prince's lyrics (I'm not easy to offend). I'm a non-religious person as well, I have never been bothered while listening to a Prince record. The JW message is a bit silly that's all...

2 - The Rainbow Children: still a classic in my book... apart from the annoying segues

3 - 20TEN: nice addition to MPLSound, great songs

4 - Planet Earth: very consistent, great songs

5 - Musicology: used to be last in the list, but has grown on me

6 - 3121: used to be higher on the list, but has too much of a r 'n b-P-wanna-b-young-again flavour to me

7 - Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic: not consistent, bad production on a lot of songs, a lot of skipping... too bad, because it was a promising project at first...

I have the exact same order. I also like the second half of musicology though: The Marrying Kind, If I Was The Man In Your Life and Dear Mr. Man
And Planet Earth.... Make it a 2 out of 10 and I can agree

Loved TRC, the rest of the list is 100% my opinion as well. Well said!

1....LOTUSFLOWER......great album from the wee man....not without flaws but loved it...

2....20TEN..................very good funk pop album ...

3....3121....................some great tracks let down by some very weak ones....

4....PLANET EARTH......again some very strong tracks let down by very weak ones...

5....MPLSOUND............ok album from prince...sounds thrown together though..

6....RAINBOW ............great organic sound and feel let down by weak songs and that stupid voiceover

I wouldn't call any of them 'worst'. For example, 'High' has 'When Eye Lay My Hands on U'; 'Slaughterhouse' 'Daisy Chain' and 'Silicon'; '3121' 'The Word' and 'The Dance'; 'Rave' 'I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore', 'Prettyman' and 'Strange But True'.

I am refering to overall albums only.

I would say this period is very under-rated by some. If you gather the real gems from the albums above you will have a selection of classic, great quality songs. Stronger than most Artists have released in their entire careers. And that of course, is excluding the fun, funkier songs which are very enjoyable.

I could do this for the 80's albums. For example, 'Parade' for me, has Four cuts I always go back to; 'Sometimes it Snows in April', 'Anotherloverholeinyohead' 'Girls & Boys' and 'Under the Cherry Moon'.

The first 3 can go up against 1980-1994 any day of the week! Rave & 3121 do have a few good tracks but some god awful stuff too. Good thread! The Rainbow kids fans vs 3121 fans again
