A painter or something creative like that. He was always creative so I couldn't see him working a traditional nine-to-five at all.

You all make me laugh out loud.... It's actually a hard question. Imagining Prince not being a musician is like imagining the world without a sky... hmmm I would say he'd be a minister at church.wink in United Methodist on Park Avenue in Minneapolis.

Here's why this is not probable:

Prince met Larry Graham in July-ish of 1997.

Prior to this point in time, Prince had shown no outward desire for any kind of organized religion. Prior to this point in time, Prince felt he could keep himself ahead of the game if he continued to write the rules. It is my belief that his sorrow over the loss of his son in late 1996 and the status of his marriage after that is what made Prince especially vulnerable to a message like Larry's.

Now, if Prince left the music biz at that point... I could see him being a minister.

But Prince ain't no minister and there is no ministering going on in his world save the sermons he gives his fans each concert.

1997 That's all. Why was I under the impression Larry and Prince knew each other for decades???

Is it a cop out to say that he could have ended up as a great songwriter or producer if he hadn't made it himself? I've thought about how his career would have been different if all the great songs he wrote were recorded by other artists exclusively. Could have been interesting.

All that "logic" is flawed because it is based on Prince as Prince the life long musician. All of the events and people that you cite pobably would not have been a part of his life had he not been a great musician. It only takes a very small and seemingly insignificant turn of a single, minute event or span of time to change an entire lifetime.

Remember how he said he tried to write an erotic book but he perferred being an artist? Also refer to Moonbeam Levels -> "Yesterday I tried to write a novel. But I didn't know where to begin"

So I would think he woulda been:

author (early career -> erotic, then older career -> spiritual/evolution)

poet

fashion designer

something artistry

philosopher

Church person

Actually, the biggest flaw is "Prior to this point in time, Prince had shown no outward desire for any kind of organized religion."

Prince was a blatant Christian which, of course, is an organized religion and his music had been littered with various religious references and preaching for about 15 years prior to '97!

I think he would have been a writer. I could see him publishing some good books about life sex and other things in that nature. A great author I should say. cool
