We can work it out

Because of my age I got into Prince around the end of the 1999 era when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I was always told by older kids in the neighborhood and oddly also by my parents that, the P I liked wasn't the P they grew up with. But what the hell does that even mean? The guy in the video seemed cool as hell to me and that record (cassette) was my favorite at the time. Well I recently rediscovered the "For You" record in my collection, and it blew my mind!!!! I love "Just as long as were together", it just freakin jams! Last night while going through my Prince playlist on my ipod (without a doubt the largest one I have), I found a song on there I had never bothered to play before.. "We can work it out" came on and I just about lost it..
Where to begin? First I am a history buff, so the fact that the song plays like a love letter to a company that he would eventually come to consider as his SLAVE master, is just remarkable. It was like watching a bad romance movie in reverse all the way to the beginning when the love was new, exciting and optimistic. Knowing what we know now, the historical significance couldn't be any cooler.
Musically, I cant help but have visions of an afro wearing pup, alone in Chris Moon's studio, laying down track after track of pop/disco/funk with guitars that look nothing like the Cloud or Symbols he would play later. It has so much energy to it. Not that his later stuff doesn't, it's just this song sounds like it was made by a kid who only recently realized that he was a genius and is out to prove it who ever lends an ear.
The older kids and my folks were right. there indeed was another Prince that I didn't know. this is definitely my favorite era of P. Not that I dont love his later work, its just for me the rawness is there. How can you not love a guy alone in a room playing all the instruments? Lets be clear, I am not one of those anti-synth, anti-linn Prince fans tough. I love most if not all of his stuff
Has anyone else heard or felt like this when they heard this song?

I am right there with U. What a beautiful Beginning. As I have said in the past, as I shall one day write Prince's Biography, "For You," is the best recorded album of all time.
