Prince & The Revolution in the RR hall of fame we know the Prince was inducted into the HOF as a solo artist...but the reality is he received most of his recognition with the revolution...
I am wondering with he hasnt been inducted them?? guidelines it's 25 yrs after the first release which would be in 1982...
just sayin... | |

not gonna happen. there isn't enough difference between Prince and Prince & the Revolution as a recording act for them to induct him again.

Prince technically WAS the Revolution. [Edited 7/18/10 21:38pm]

Amen! Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Thank you. That is correct. "New Power slide...."

True. But why is it unfortunate, though?

Please give The Revolution a rest. Prince was & always will be the mastermind behind his own success. Whoever was along for the brief ride. Was just a leaf on his tree that he grew & created... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! cough "bullshit!" cough [Edited 7/18/10 22:16pm] Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Oh really? You think Prince actually allowed that band free rein? COME ON this is Prince.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well I do think that when the revolution, when allowed, helped to focus P and his sound. There is a reason that after sign o the times, his music become ego centric and lost touch with the mainstream. Once he found "jehovah" crap pretty much is all he's been turning out.
Do I see them in the hall of fame no, but one can't deny they did have an influence. Which is sorely missed. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Yeah I ain't gonna deny they did but it isn't enough to grant them Hall of Fame entry. They had a good run though (1980-86).

^Then again who knows since getting into the hall of fame is bout as easy these days as getting a star on the walk of fame, you just need the coin. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

In my opnion the members of the Revolution just happened to be around when Prince was hitting his peak. He still wrote most of the joints aside from a few.

We need to stop trying to make him part of a band, had that been his outlook we may never have known him. The revolution was one of his greatest whims, yet not essential to his survival as an artist. He's not Mick, he isnt synonomous with a group of people. When i see Mick alone the first thing i think about is Keith. When i see Prince alone.. I only think of Prince when i see Wendy and Lisa because that is how they entered the mainstream. [Edited 7/19/10 3:27am] [Edited 7/19/10 3:28am]

As we can tell by the "revolution's" stellar output after being disbanded ....

1. What does Prince becoming a Jehovah's Witness have to do with The Revolution?
You do realize that he hadn't reunited with any of those band members until after he became a Witness?
2. One could easily argue that Prince's music has always been egotistic and became "out of touch" with popular taste after Purple Rain.
Around The World in a Day, and Parade were not "in touch" with the mainstream...they were where Prince wanted to go regardless... that the public wanted Purple Rain pt. 2 "New Power slide...."

that's not a fair statement. just because you don't believe in the same faith, doesn't make it crap.

To put the Revolution in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would suggest that they were on an equal footing with Prince or played a significant role in his success.
Neither of those things is true. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I hear you KCool but, we cannot take away from the production that Wendy, Lisa, Dez and Dr. Fink had on some of the music we all know and love. [img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif[/img:$uid]
In terms of the RR Hall of Fame, that would not include them, though like other orgers have said. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I agree PurpleLove. These folks are talented musicians and writers and should be consider "window dressing". When I hear songs like W&L's "Let Say" it clearly shows me their influence on Prince's sound during that time. The funny thing is Wendy and Lisa seem to be able to recapture that "Revolution" sound better than Prince can.
Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

Technically yes lol but they were around since the Dirty Mind/Controversy eras so they were there then in some way then.

No, they weren't. The first mention of the Revolution was on the cover of 1999 - and the band didn't become that "officially" until Dez left and Wendy joined the band in 1983. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I sort of don't really believe in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rock and Roll shouldn't be institutionalized. So, I won't comment on that. However, many people on the org are pretty desperate to downplay The Revolution's influence on Prince's music during that era. It was his most creative time, and particularly, Wendy and Lisa were intimate collaborators. You don't get a pretty song like Purple Rain without Wendy's chords. She wrote that chord progression. At the same time Prince went into the studio alone and wrote The Beautiful Ones. His independent genius is not sullied by acknowledgement of The Revolution's influence and awesomeness. Things would have been different without that band and Wendy in particular. That's just the truth.
