Whats wrong with Maceo?

For one, Maceo doesn't appear to have "co-erced" Prince into a "cult" religion. Plus, playing Pass The Peas doesn't compare in snore-factor to the same Everyday Higher Thank You medley...

However, I do like Thank You - some of the Indigo2 versions were awesome. And without Larry biggrin

Thank you.

It was intended to be tasteless.

But it is no more tasteless than wanting to 'delete' a man is it?

Where do you guys come up with these assessments of him? Seriously, I am curious. I mean, I don't care for his work with Prince either, but I don't see anything that would make me want to erase him from history!

For real & the topic is so tired! Prince gives props to Maceo all the time also & has played Pass The Peas countless time. Just got done listening to 1 of the 2007 London shows @ Prince calls out or name checks him at least half of the show & yet & still folks hate on Larry. I don't see the same directed towards Maceo!

It is because Larry Graham is a Jehovah's Witness. They conclude because Prince studied the Bible with Larry, Larry 'turned' Prince into a Jehovah's Witness. Pure and simple.

It really has nothing to do with Larry's talent or history. They are largely ignorant of it.

Larry takes the blame for Prince's lyric changes and alterations in behaviour etc.

These assessments are based on Larry's alleged behaviour about forty years ago, and the conjecture he brainwashed Prince.

Larry Graham is a bass legend and genius referenced from Bootsy Collins to Victor Wooten.

Fair enough if some here don't appreciate the music, but such bitter vitorol and conspiracy theories about Larry's 'brainwashing' of Prince are pure fantasy. It seems some of you live there, in a peculiarly toxic fantasy. I pity you.

Larry does not play the same songs on his solo performances. If he plays them with Prince live, it is because Prince asks him to.

Many of the comments about Larry here amount to religious prejudice. If Larry were a devout Muslim barely anyone here would dare comment. And in a hypothetical sense, had Prince converted for example, to Islam, the changes in behaviour would have been just as dramatic.

Perhaps it would have been better if Doug E Fresh had lead Prince into Scientology?

Funk is its own reward.

Wish people would just leave Larry alone! confused

The man is one of the best bass players alive and knows a hell of a lot about music and the music business than all of us put together and probably more than Prince, cant fault him. He is brilliant live, the way that man licks the the bass is like no other! and he seemed like a really sweet guy too.

Larry is old enough to be Prince's older brother. lol That's the problem. I wonder if that's a typo though...

How old is Larry now..mid to late 60s? over ten yrs older than Prince. Calling someone ur little bro/sis nothing wrong with that i think the orger is looking too much into it. To me it just shows that they're very close.

I understand what ur saying but i dont think its meant like that, i think hes just expressing his unique closeness to him. We don't know what kind of relationship they have between each other and we'll never know.

Poor old Larry, he is being treated likes hes Luficer's re-incarnated son or something lol

i doubt it was anything intentional on Larry's part, but when prince looks up to someone, he plays the role they give him.

i'd still love to hear Larry's answer to this question though, referring to a musical legend as your little brother is remiss to say the least, even if he were just referring to age, but i somehow doubt that.

i'll hold my tongue on what i'm really thinking for now and see if it comes out in the wash wink

actually i just remembered, or maybe i've remembered wrong, didnt he say 'baby brother'?

hmm not sure, either way, it's a very interesting statement to make about an icon

if we were to compare the genius of prince's mind to Larry's, who is older?

if we were to compare prince's musical versatility to Larry's, who is older?

if we were to compare Prince's previous spiritual understandings, to Larry's religious views, who is older?

if we were to compare Prince's bank balance with Larry's, who is older?

if we were to compare the number of women Prince has had, with Larry's conquests, who is older?

if we were even to simply compare Prince's lyric content to Larry's, who is older?

if we were to compare Prince's childlike maturity to Larry's seriousness, who is older? given that maintaining innocence in one's life is the mark of an evolved soul?

i'm even more interested now as to what Larry's answer to my question is.

i'd like to know how in the world he could ever think he's older or bigger or more mature or more knowledgeable or grander than Prince in any way shape or form.

ready when you are Larry heart
