I love "Come on" so much I also think the Leno performance of this track was ace. Its such a beautifully melancholic feel to it.

Have you heard any of the remixes? The Come On single came with various remixes. I have the 3 and 6 track versions, but there is a 7 track cd which includes the remix of "The One," this version was the NPG mail order version.

1. Come On (Radio Edit) (4:30)
1. Come On (Doug E. Fresh Mix) (4:57)
And the NPG mail order version: 1. Come On (Doug E. Fresh Mix) (4:57)

Did this song get radio play in the states when it came out? I've always loved it, but I lived in a country where Prince isn't regularly played when this came out and only heard it years later... Change it one more time..

I don't live in the USA, so i don't know about the radio play, but Come On was not released as a single in the US, despite a message on the Love 4 One Another website, that Prince was preparing a release of the single with a remix produced by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest and the Prince and Marva King duet of Shania Twain's "Your Still The One."

Speaking of which: can anybody find that Leno performance of "Come On" online? I can only find a versino on YouTube with just audio...
I remember it being cool, but memories can lie...

Does anyone know if the 7-track maxi single is rare and what is it worth? I thought I read once that it was. And yes, the late-nite remix is da bomb.

The 7 track is rare yes, it was only available on mail order from 1-800-New-Funk. I have no idea how much it is worth or how many were made/sold. I am still looking for a copy as i want the remix of "The One."

Radio in the USA ( and maybe elsewhere i don't know) is the exclusive domain of major labels. It's just one more reason why Prince can't get a hit even when he has a song that's hit material.

'come on' was the track which told me that prince was still capable of making incredible, spacious, paranoid beats.
Isolating the drums/bass/synth reveals this composition to be equally as good as a track like housequake. [Edited 7/16/10 11:58am] You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

Wow, what a great way to describe this track... "paranoid beats." I love it!!! Yeah, this track is my fav of that era w/o a doubt. It's almost like there is an "event horizon" for stupidity - once you fall below that line, you're too stupid to know you're stupid.

easily one of his best. too bad his "vision" of the song didn't match, because that video was one of the worst music videos of all time. even bad by his standards. this message brought to you by logic.

But he did look gorgeous in it though...

A lot of fun. I love the remix better. I don't know about you, but I've always thought his rapping is on point esp. when it comes to sounding sarcastic and critical. He's not a rapper, we can't talk about flow, delivery, rhyming skills, etc. the way we do about rappers, but he's got a great rhythm. I'm cool with him putting rap verses in his own voice. If he feels that's what's right musically and did it for the reason, it's all good for me. He did it right.

My fave off of NewPowerSoul. The remixes were great as well. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
