Best Prince I have ever seen live! Hi all, I have joined this site just recently and this is my first post. Ever since I saw Prince in Vienna I have had the intention to share my enthusiasm with you, since I figured this is exactly the right place - being among other Prince fans here.
Then it took a while till I was able to post and now I have just read that thread about "Prince's most disastrous tour" ... better said, I read two pages and then decided I have had enough of it and I'd rather write something positive about this great artist we supposedly all like - at least that was my reason for signing up and joining this fan community.
Anyway, I would like to tell you that I was a real big Prince fan in the 80s and early 90s. Ever since I saw the video of Purple Rain for the first time, followed by seeing the movie about ten times, I was in love with the guy and he fascinated me beyond words. I went to about ten concerts during those years - in Munich, Vienna and London. Unfortunately he stopped coming on tour to Europe after 1993, and along with the fact that I liked his CDs after that a lot less than the previous ones, I saw my favorite band Aerosmith for the first time in 1994 and they sort of took over from Prince as my number one music interest. (I have now seen them 8 times in concert, the last one in Prague was just barely two weeks before I saw Prince in Vienna ... it was interesting that both came this year and within such a short time.)
To make a long story short, since Prince's 2007 London shows (which I could not go to at the time) I had been hoping for him to come back to Europe so that I could see him in concert again. Because at that time I realized that he was just as brilliant in concert as I remembered him to be from "the old days", and even though his CDs still did not do much for me I knew I would enjoy seeing him live again! And so I was more than thrilled when I first read about this short tour and bought the expensive wavebreaker ticket for Vienna without the slightest hesitation.
And now I can only say - I am a fully "re-activated" fan again after that sensational concert!!! He was the best I have ever seen him, especially since he was so obviously in a great mood and very playful, teasing the crowd and having fun. I do not remember him being that "natural" in his younger years! Also his dancing was fantastic and pure joy to watch!! He moved with such ease and was active all the time. (I wonder if he ever had that hip replacement that one could read about a few years ago??) His guitar playing blew me away once again, and his voice touched my heart like in the best times!
In other words - for me it was the best concert I have ever been to (including Aerosmith and other classic rock bands like AC/DC or the Rolling Stones - who are all favorites of mine) and I am still smiling about it!!! Prince has always been an amazing performer, in a class of his own, but what he has shown in Vienna was so much more than I could have ever expected!! I think I saw Prince at his best - not only as a musician, but also as a person - and I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of experiencing him like this.
From now on I will definitely go to every concert again that I can possibly manage to get to - at least here in Europe! ;o) And with that, I hope Prince will come back again soon.
Sorry if I have bored you with this, and thanks for this opportunity to let my heart speak. Have a great day/evening all of you!

Welcome to the Org. I am glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. I go to anywhere from ten to twenty shows a year by all types of artists and Prince is definately the best performer I have ever seen. I just caught my second favorite act (TOOL) twice last week. It was the 12th and 13th time seeing them and they were amazing as usual. I have seen Prince a few more times than that.

Thanks for the welcome and the nice comments!
That's great that you also think Prince is the best performer, although you see that many concerts! I only go to about 5 concerts a year, and usually I enjoy them all very much. Whenever Aerosmith, the Stones, or U2 are near I go see them and always have a great time! AC/DC I saw for the first time last year in London, and also they did a fantastic show. I mainly go to big concerts like that and they are always great - but Prince really blew me away completely with his performance! Although I had heard people rave about his concerts ever since the Musicology Tour, I was totally amazed ... and still am.
BORUSH44 - I have recently bought the DVD of Prince live at the Aladdin in Las Vegas ... that was also part of the Musicology Tour, right? I have yet to watch it! [Edited 7/25/10 0:51am]

That's nice that your first word was Prince. I have a similar story: I was a nanny for a little boy in the States during my "totally nuts about Prince"-days (late 80s) and when the boy started talking, his first word was "purple". - I had watched Purple Rain with him uncountable times!!! And now the boy is a young man and, guess what - he still loves Prince and goes to see him live whenever he gets a chance!!

Oh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. So there is no dvd of the Musicology tour then, I guess? Too bad that Prince does not share more of his awesome live shows with us on DVD!!!

Now you've gone & made me dust off that sucka. Great boot, initially prepped for an official release.
I was at the Alladin show. Been to so many but that was near the top of the list of "official shows" I've been too. The dvd does not do it justice. Over 3 hours of Rainbow Children & rare material (power fantastic & others) & it was pared down to a hour & a half... Arrrgh. I remember he started the show on the drum kit before giving way to blackwell. Oh well at least he included Whole Lotta Love & I'm in the video, was fortunate to be sitting 4th row for that motha. Hope he comes to the states soon but i have a feeling he's soley doing "gun for hire" shows now for $$. Its ok like many of you I've more than had the ultimate experience up to now.
