Boots to have

I don't have much Prince stuff apart from stuff that has gone under official release and a few live performances. I am also going to be getting access to some download sites like Kazaa soon, so what do you reckon are the best bootlegs which I should get first??

LoveSexy tour Sendai,Japan (feb 1st 1989) (with the PP 88 rehearsal on disc 2,killer!)

AWESOME show, amazing guitar & Lets Go Crazy is the wildest version ive heard.

the 2cd R U Xperienced is good (shows from GlamSlam miami 95 & PaisleyPark 94)

Rock Over Germany is the SoundBoard show 2 get from the prince days . . .great show & also the old hits with killer cuts of Peach,Sign O The Times,The Cross & She's Always In My Hair (2 fonky guitar).

they're the ones i have that i love .. . .oh & also the SOTT rehearsal from the Now's the Time bootleg is wild, the songs sound way better than they do on teh actual SOTT album,& i think "It" is the only SOTT song that isnt performed in this rehearsal.

Small Club is amazing, both sound quality and music are excellent. Actually, I still prefer Small Club over ONA live.

The version of "U Got The Look" that's on "Now's The Time" may be one of my most played Prince songs ever. INCREDIBLE...particularly the last minute or so. Boni wailing away and Prince's guitar on fire!!! The one bad thing is it completely ruined the album version for me (which wasn't difficult since it was already my least favorite SOTT track)

There are way too much interesting cd's to give a definitive list. But I think you can place cd's in 3 categories:
- regular shows
- outtakes
- aftershows/one-off shows

I think you should begin with one show from every tour. That means that you need:
- city lights (80 until 86)
- wonderboy (87)
- livesexy (88 )
- spanish harem (90)
- stagetronic (92)
- act I live in chicago (93 act I)
- for all the roses (93 act II)
- prince is muerto(95)
- millenium grooves (96/97)
- utrecht 98 (97/98 )
- celebration in columbus (00/01)
- ona in chicago (02)

After that concentrate on studio outtakes:
- the work (12 cd's?)

Then the aftershows/one-off shows:
- peach and black (87)
- small club (88 )
- estandard (93)
- this is what we do to have fun (95)
- r u gonna go my way (98 )
- nighttown (02)

After these cd's you will have a good start...

Good luck,
TheKid

Dont bother with the old rehersal release's, get the Sabotage release's. Also get the Lovesexy rehersal on Watch Tower records from Osaka ( its not the funk city rehersal), its the best sounding rehersal iv'e heard. All the Purple Rush's are great. Sign Of the Times 2.0., of course City Lights, The Work 1-5 is a must, One Night Alone in Washington, and Nudity.

The Cross,IGBABN,Slow Love,SOT . .. these trax from the rehearsal kick ass of the album cuts,The Cross on the LP is just bland compared 2 any live version.
PlayInTheSunshine on NowsThetime rocks.
fave bit on GotTheLook rehearsal is "u got the look . .. u musta took . . . a fuckin hour!!! just 2 make up yo face"
classic!

Something In the Water (alternative version)
The Voice Inside
The Sex of It
In a Large Room with no light

Im not Talking about the Sabotage release- Im talking about the Watch Tower release Black Funk Rehersal its a full two disc rehersal. Its a totaly different set list than the paisley park rehersal. Its even better quality than the Sabotage released Japan shows.

I've been listening to 'Now's the Time' and I'm not really feeling it. Perhaps it takes a while to get into, but they really sound like sub-standard versions of the performances in the movie. I'd rather watch the movie (although it's great to have TBODP and Strange Relationship) than listen to this, as it helps to have the crowd atmosphere.

Disc 1 of R U Xperienced on the other hand, now that is a killer show! It's the performance from "The Beautiful Xperience" movie. I knew that concert would have to exist on tape somewhere smile
