One Song I think this is one amazing message..
[Youtube snip - luv4u]
As stated on the banner at the top of this forum.......
"Please do not post any Prince/Assoc. Artists videos from sites such as YouTube, MySpace etc. This is strictly prohibited for legal reasons, and we ask that all Org members please respect this. Note: Violating posts will be removed. 'Repeat offender' accounts will be deleted - permanently. You have been warned! The same goes for fake tracklists, attention-seeking 'rumor' threads etc - don't!"
1999... and the illusion continues. One begs 2 ask -
Discuss.
That's the first time I've ever said "Discuss." That was nice. [Edited 7/8/10 12:26pm] What is your main problem?

Don't post trolls/ads/spam/get-rich-quick schemes/other junk. ..... Don't be lazy and give a 1-sentence "what do you think about X?". At least explain your position, why, etc... make it interesting to read; you're more likely to get quality responses. [Edited 7/8/10 13:46pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I just wanted to know how people felt about it in general. What is your main problem?

Only Prince could start a song singing 'I am the universe'.
Seems like he's quite a modest guy...

I think, since he said "we are the universe" later, he meant that we all make up everything and the whole thing about the world being peaceful if we are all "one being singing the one song" What is your main problem?

Weel, starting in such a way I couldn't be bothered with the rest of the lyrics.
Next up will be that the great Mr. Jehovah himself is really Prince's personal bell boy and takes care of all of Prince's requests and chores.

I love how you are bringing the whole JW thing into this when the song was from before he actually became a JW. What is your main problem?

Well, he met Larry (again) in 97 or 98, can't remember the exact year.
And One Song is from Dec 31st 99.

"One Song" (uni verse) sums up what love4oneanother.com was all about, and thus he used this song to end that era. It's been so long, so it's hard to remember, but I think it was written before '99 (or very early in the year). I know it was either during or just before the time he was working with Larry and Chaka in the studio, and right before he started preaching some JW-beliefs ("stauros," etc). The things he says in the intro is a lot like how he used to talk to his fans/fams back then, especially those working on his site and charity at the time. Those are the things he used to think a lot about. He used to ask a lot of questions, if for no other reason than to lead you to his conclusion and see if you agreed. It is my firm belief that "One Song" was born out of those discussions -- so it does owe some credit to those who would listen and talk with him at the time. Lyrically, it has some things in common with "The Love We Make" and "Holy River" -- remember that saying about "one by one, drop by drop" we make up the whole river? He is saying we are all part of it -- the uni verse, the one song, the future soul song -- strays of the world, rainbow children, new breed leaders. If you talked to him about being "the artist," he'd say "we r all the artist." That's how he believed -- that we all played a part -- a "pay it forward" "soul splash" "reVerberation" "keep the vibe alive" kind of philosophy. And boy did he LOVE to play with words and their meanings -- during this time, more than any other. That's also reflected in the intro. I think it was a good time for him (right before a lot of changes in his life) -- he hadn't been on this big of a spiritual high since putting together Lovesexy and Graffiti Bridge. And then on The Rainbow Children, just a few years later, we see some of these same thoughts re-emerge, along with a strong JW-vibe.
I believe it's one of Prince's most personal songs -- it meant a lot for him to share it. When he shut down love4oneanother.com, he let this song remain for what seemed like a year or more. [Edited 7/13/10 0:04am]
Nobody listening? See, this is why I don't throw pearls around here too often. [Edited 8/9/10 19:12pm] ∞ ʀ⁅VERB⁆я ∞
