Turn it up 2.0. The last word? I don't have this book but keep seeing it referred 2 here all the time. Is it really the last word on Princes unrealeased work or is there still stuff noone knows about?
What research was done 4 the book? Do the authors cite any sources? I really would be interested 2 know. | |

it is amazing. The details they report have been incredibly researched. It is the bible for Prince fans. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. Perhaps NOT quite the last word...and I'm sure it's not through any fault of their own.
Bearing in mind the quantity of unreleased stuff that is emerging all the time plus all the mistakes and typos that unintentionally keep appearing on recent issues of UPTOWN, TURN IT UP 2.0 is already in serious need of updating. UPTOWN themselves seem to be pointing out that pretty soon there will be a TURN IT UP 3.0 in the near future. Recent updates, particularly on UPTOWN issues 53 and 57 suffer from what appear to be typos and what I'm pretty sure are unintentional errors on the part of UPTOWN staff. Having said that, TURN IT UP 2.0 is usually a highly reliable source and (eventually) they do get around to correcting all the existing inaccuracies, providing they either get the correct information or it is pointed out to them. You will be very hard pressed to find a better or more painstakingly researched source of info regarding Prince's output than UPTOWN's TURN IT UP series. Long live. . It is very well researched and there is nothing that betters it for what it covers. Where appropriate, material is invariably cross-checked with records at the Library of Congress and ASCAP. Where there is doubt about authenticity, credits to Prince himself, changes in name etc. this is made clear.
What research was done 4 the book? Do the authors cite any sources? I really would be interested 2 know. Is it the last word on Prince? Unlikely, because Uptown continue to correct and add to their databases. Inevitably with the amount of information covered it will have errors in, or missing information - which Uptown are more than happy to correct or include. Is there still stuff no-one knows about? Well, if no-one knows about it, then who can say? But the likelihood is that Prince has material that has been recorded over the years but it is not included in Turn It Up 2.0. Sources are cited as noted above, e.g. mention is made of records of authorship, publisher, etc where this provides extra useful information. http://www.uptown.se/2002/books.shtml ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice.
