It's very clear that Bart is Trent Reznor and is allowed to stay on this board (even tho he posts outragious things about Prince) because certain mods are fanboyish. As you know Bart, that chart means nothing to nobody. The only reason you bring it up is because you, Trent Reznor, pushes that same old crap in the media that "True Fans" want memorabilia & "sell these online".
You know that doesn't work because you, Trent Reznor, claimed that you sold out of the "Ghosts ultra-deluxe limited edition" $300 package netting a million dollar profit. You got lots of media attention for that and was proclaimed an ""innovator" and a music distribution visionary, etc... The reality was... it was a big LIE, no one took a look at your financial records. You never sold out those 2000 deluxe packages because 2 years later you were selling "left overs" on your NIN Twitter. Reznor is one of the biggest con man out there.
Additionally, I see the link above goes to a blog that highly promoted Reznor's online efforts (just use the search bar on the blog). Reznor has made very little $$ since he was dropped from his label. Why? His music and concerts don't sell very well - plain & simple. His last concert in NYC sold less than 2000 seats and had tickets available at a reduced price the day of the show.
Prince is on a much higher level than Reznor - plain & simple. Additionally, it is very clear that Prince doesn't want to focus on merchandising (since his concerts do well) and wants to try other avenues besides online distribution.
Bart/Trent, I think it's psycho crazy how you obsessively post negative things about Prince on this board because Prince dissed you and flirted with an old girlfriend of yours years ago. You are a sad man indeed. [Edited 3/26/11 21:20pm]

Holy Fuck! True or not, it all makes sense now. Trent Reznor = Bart. "New Power slide...."

Still, its good to see Bart/Trent continue to display his mental meltdown and the depths he will stoop to just to take any sort of swipe at Prince. I mean, pulling a cheap, simplistic, graphic representation of a model designed for those just starting out, from some blog just smacks of desperation!
And, even if we, or even Prince, were to lend this any credibility to this pearl of wisdom and appreciate that it might have some valid points (which it does, for people who know nothing), then its all stuff Prince has done and is still doing. I'm not a fan of "memorabilia" either (save for a tour programme for gigs), but to prove that Prince recently did something from "the top of the tree" - what about the Prince Opus? Surely that qualifies as "limited, exclusive, expensive, time-sensitive packages. Use a partner to help plan this". Seems like Opus ticked all those boxes.
Keep bringing the facts though, eh Bartrent?! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Are you guys serious about Bart being Trent Reznor? Is that why he had a Prince website years ago before Prince decided to declare war against fan websites that kind of supported him and his art?
So, Trent Reznor is Bart and, besides dissing Prince, he always comes with the hard facts in the P&R forum?
But hey,it´s all good....I once made a remark about laurarichardson probably being Prince...but I wasn´t serious about it.
But back to the topic of the thread. It´s true that Prince doesn´t really know how to milk his fanbase wisely. His recent concerts were quite pricey ( but I still enjoyed the show and have no regrets but won´t see multiple shows like I used to ) and he has NO merch at all. And the stuff they used to sell years ago, during ONA or the O2 shows, was totally whack and overpriced. And that Housequake.com logo in one of the calendars was priceless. So he declares war against fansites, yet his team uses a fansite´s logo in one picture that was obviously lifted from there. I think Prince is still a very talented artist and a true showman but he definitely could use some help when it comes to merch and album distribution. He doesn´t seem to have any idea of what his fans would like to buy. Some of his officially released DVDs were horribly bad ( Rave Un2 the Year 2000, ONA at the Alladdin, his ONA Live album, etc. etc.)
Nothing wrong with taking some advice and make a bit more money without tarnishing your reputation by releasing subpar quality. The VHS tapes he sold in the late 90s were a joke, it is sad when the bootleggers know better how to create an interesting product than the artist himself. Bart was pissed before the internet shutdown. I think Bart's original beef was with the Crystal Ball fiasco.

I'm glad Prince doesn't milk his fans like Reznor (no class). Hey, give me a kick ass show and a slamming album and I'm set. T-shirts/hats/whatever last for about a year. Prince keeps his eyes on the prize - the music and film-back in the day.
If Bart/Trent wanted to be helpful to Prince and stop his passive aggressiveness, then list some names of some merchandising companies that provides good design for Prince's target audience. Simple. Give out RECOMMENDATIONS so his team could do some research.
I don't see Prince being interested in being an internet guru at this stage in the game. And it's important to remember the trauma he experienced for several yrs. being with Warner Brothers. Hell, Prince made hundreds of millions of dollars for WB and most likely received a small fraction of $$ compared to what WB made. Happens to 99.9% of musicians. So, I can understand his stance on not wanting to give away all of his music for free. Bad memories... Also, intellectual property rights law has been leaning in Prince's favor. For example, France now has downloading restrictions and Obama just created a "Joint Strategic Plan to Combat Intellectual Property Theft". His strategy doesn't have much teeth but who knows what will happen in 2/3 years...
It's always best in the long run to be truthful, kind and professional and I feel Prince has been this way. I never took an interest in that $80 fansite, so I can't speak to that issue. And no, I do not work for Prince and I am not Prince. I grew up when we actually had to buy the music with real greenbacks and never expected to get it free. [Edited 7/14/10 17:29pm]

I think it was more about "the Collective" and the lawsuit with Uptown. we were all pissed back then. but 13 years later, some of us have realized that we're still here, still interested, still buying his music, still going to his concerts, still listening to his music, reading interviews, talking about him on the Internet, so there's not much point in holding the hostility for more than a couple of weeks beyond whatever the latest business fiasco or creative failure or publicity faux pas might be, because it eats away at your brain and your soul if you're still going to follow the guy. I'm glad Bart is still around 13 years later to remind us of that.

Nobody´s asking for freebies ( at least I am not). I´d gladly pay money if he´d release some of the stuff that the bootleggers have already released over the years. Too bad that the legit releases don´t come close to some of Sabotage´s releases. Prince could easily make a lot of money without angering his fans but somehow he always finds a way to ruin a good idea for a release. Some people who were there at the Alladdin show still can´t believe how lame that DVD is when the actual show was apparantly quite good. And in the late 90s he sold VHS tapes of the Beautiful Experience that were recorded from either Japanese or Korean TV.
You´re raising some good points, especially about being truthful, kind and professional...it´s exactly what´s been missing in some of his endeavors in the past decade or so. I don't how he's managed to last 30 years in this business without your guidance? He's probably just some flash in the pan that will be over soon! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Exactly. And what's with all the revisionist history on this site? His last five albums have been successful worldwide, on the charts, the internet and the newstand. He's been able to do things commercially, that few artists his age have ever accomplished. 33 albums in, hundreds of brilliant concerts, dozens of "unreleased" classics, outside projects and b-sides- P is flipping the paradigm of your weak ass trade school marketing chart.
And I like the Trent Reznor theory. We'll see what he's doing when he's 52. If he was commercially successful, you wouldn't like him.

i think prince has just done the first one on that chart - "create limited, exclusive, time senseitive package" (minus the expensive) with the 2010 disc, it fits all those for me...therefore it looks like prince is actuaully marketing himself correctly - according to your chart.

I always wondered what his beef was. So all these years later he's still bitter about Crystal Ball. You'd think Prince personally pissed on his chips or shagged his broad

Disprove that fans don't want memorabilia.
Oh look, lies. 2500 x $300 = what?
Lie.

Lie. He's just clueless.
So you buy memorabilia in the hopes to profit from them? I suggest you look up what the word "memorabilia" means.

Oh, and you forgot to include that you couldn't care less about my opinion, which is why you wrote this idiotic post.
